I have been through BG1 and BG2 numerous times. I need to know what class of character is the MOST POWERFUL at high-high levels. I went back through bg1 again with a fighter/cleric/mage and was highly disappointed that I could not grandmaster weapons when starting bg2. so Anything with a fighter in it would be weak? yes? what do you think? Cleric/Mage? duel class? Straight Mage? I'm lost......Bard?

There's no single most powerful class, it depends on how you play. Spellcasters have access to a ton of powerful spells, but the high-level abilities for rogues and fighter classes and subclasses balance this out very well. So don't worry, choose based on what your preference is, not on who you think will be the most powerful.

A Mage will probably beat any other class at 30/40th level because of the twisted spells he can use but characters with high magic resistance can take a mage out quite easily especially when they run out of spells.
All classes have strengths and weaknesses so as for what's the best class its a matter of personal choice once you get to level 20+. Bards can only ever cast 6th level spells in ToB |

There's a high-level rogue ability called Set Time Trap which is like a weaker Time Stop spell (lasts for 1 round).

of course, theres always the fighter/mage combo which can be extremely formidable against another class of his exp amount... if he has the right spells, that is. but just play what you feel most confortable, and what you think is funnest, cuz thats all that really matters in the end is that you have fun, not that you just blasted your way through the game without any competition (although that IS nice every once in awhile)

I like Sorceror. He can get really powerful spells at 18 and up levels.
My favourite spells are Summon Planetar and Dragon breath(20d10 damage). ------------------ You cannot escape the inevitable. |
