Don't u guys think BG is too hard? I dunno but u guys but Bg is the hardest gam i'll ever played, i had to load and reload the same thing nearly twenty times just to beat that guy in the Nashkel mines, Mulahey i think his name was. And thinks became even harder when i took on the bandit camp, i had to crank the gameplay to easiest and i still had to reload about six times. I did finally beat those Bandit junkies, but i had to use all my potions. Most of you probaly stopped reading three lines ago but if u still are then anwser this, is Bg the hardest game u ever played and if not name your harder game.

I Don't think so, but it might be the way you play it... maybe you adventure with a very weak party, with wrong weapons / armor and quiver... ?

I'm assuming you have been focussing mainly on wrapping up the iron buisness before you want to go anywhere else. If not, skip to the last paragraph straight away

Experience has a lot to do with it. And I'm talking mostly about the experience of the characters, although experience from the player is always welcome too
You'll probably know that by killing monsters you gain experience points, and if you have enough of those, your characters level up. Each time they level up they get a bit better. Each time they get a bit better, it gets a little easier to kill more monsters.

You can play and finish the game by following the main storyline, going to the mines, the bandit camp, etc.. That is fine, and you'll gain a lot of experience points just from doing those major quests.
However, there is never any time limit to push you along, and Baldur's Gate comes complete with may more maps than those you need for that main plot. Each one is very well worked out, and wouldn't it be a shame not to visit them?
For on those other maps too there are herds of experience points walking around and grazing, just waiting for you to collect them. Occasionally you may find a nifty magic item too.

If you just take your time to enjoy the game and fully explore every map, that not only will you have played a much larger game, but the really tough fights are made a lot easier if your characters are two or three levels higher than they normally would be.

Baldur's Gate is certainly challenging, especially the first few times through, but if you move just a little slower the difficulty should be bearable.
Of course, it all depends on how tough you want your game to be...

So, my answer is no, BG is not the hardest game I've ever played. For me, that title should go to any chess-like games with a decent AI. You just can't beat 'em

One thing to keep in mind is when you set the gameplay difficulty level to minimum, you cut down the amount of experience points you get for each fight. It may help you out in a pinch, but in the long run, you are crippling your party's progression.

The beginning stages of BG1 are difficult for a very good reason: Everybody is Level 1. Meaning, nobody has any hitpoints. Meaning, if anything happens, you die. Nobody has any Saving Throws, either.

Wander around in BG2, and the general mood is, "Oh, I can just wander around this place without scouting....if some Dragon pops up and blasts me with Acid Breath, or I get swarmed by Bone Golems, I might have to chug a Healing Potion or two. No big deal."
In BG1, however, it's: "Uh-oh, Vampric Wolves! If they roll a 20, I'm DEAD! And I can't outrun them! Quick! Monster Summoning! MONNNNSSSTTTEERRRR SSUUMMMONNNIINNGGGGGGGG!"

The beginning is very hard, especially if you are not a tank (a really powerful fighter). Persevere, and the game will become more fun to play and easier...

Slightly easier...

But seriously, I honestly liked the high difficulty of the game. So many modern games these days are too easy...

Grimslade, tell me about it. I beat Red Faction, an FPS, the day I bought it.

Well, it's sure a killer dungeon. I wouldn't tolerate it from a live DM. But given that you can save and retry the tough things until you get it right (quite a number of shots before I got Davaeorn) it's not that bad. It took me a while to learn that I had to turn off the AI before scouting with Imoen, because she kept shooting at monsters when she saw them. 8>)

Firestormalpha, if you are looking for a tough FPS, try Serious Sam 1 or 2 on Hard (or above) difficulty. That kept me going for months. Quake 1 on Nightmare difficulty was also a good challenge. So is the venerable Duke Nukem 3d on some of the tougher difficulties.

Have fun!

do you know how to pause? (press SPACE bar to pause the game) and remember, always remember, anticipation and position. master the control of this two, you will never be stopped.

say, dont let your mage blast everything he sees, because your mage will always be a low to mid lvl caster through the game. hold off your Magic Missle spell until you predict the enemy in the middle of a casting, then let fly your missles. this way you intrrupt him.
