Thank you to all that have helped me....got a full party now

I equipped a Heavy Crossbow on Montaron (his weapon proficiency with Missile weapons is ++ so I thought this would be a good plan) and after using it to shoot bolts at a few enemies it broke! Is this bad luck? Can I repair it? What's the deal here? Thanks

give montaron a sling if anything for a missile weapon. Crossbows are way too slow for practical use. Better yet he is a decent fighter, give him a sword and send him to battle.

weapons will always break at random battles until you complete the Naskell Mines Quest. I have never repaired a weapon, just buy a new one.
(PS: magical weapons (+1 etc.) do not break

I, for one, have never seen a broken Crossbow. I thought it was only melee weapons that are made of metal that could break--Staves, Clubs, Bows, Crossbows and Slings are supposed to be exempt. Weird.

Actually, i've always thought it was even more specific than that because the only thing i've ever broken has been longswords. And only Khalid's at that! But than again i've only played two complete games.
