~~~~ ~~~~ While Nalia was held in captivity, I went to the Druid Grove in order to complete the Limited Wish quest and pick up Cernd at the same time. This will only be the third time in my BG2 gaming history that I am picking up Cernd. The only other NPC that fares worse is Haer'Dalis. I really need to think of a party setup that can include Cernd. Not going to happen anytime soon though. Cernd's quest was pretty straightforward, and it was not long before I abandoned him at the NPC inn. Farewell, Cernd ~~~~ ~~~~ More backstabbing screenies. Backstabbed Drush Nothing personal, Drush. Backstabbed Priest of Mask Rena's current personal best so far. Almost attained 300dmg. Soon, soon. Backstabbed Officer Dirth My favourite kill so far. Rena, Minsc, and Jaheira all struck at the very same time. Triple-Hit Combo Kill! I have just about given up on trying to backstab Ulitharids. Even with a weapon of ZERO speed factor, I cannot backstab them fast enough before they turn around to face Rena. ~~~~ ~~~~ It took me a few reloads to bring down the Shadow Dragon because the party was very, very depleted. The fight itself was not that hard, and I allowed the AI script to do most of the work, with manual intervention occasionally. Kelsey started the fight with a Spell Trigger, followed by Imoen's Spell Sequencer( GMalison+Slow+Slow). The Shadow Dragon went hostile, and casted Remove Magic on Rena. Fortunately, for the Shadow Dragon, it was not as Rena-obsessed as the other Bosses so far, and actually bothered to attack Jaheira, Mazzy, and Minsc. It was only when it wing-buffeted them away did it start to attack Rena. This meant however, it left Kelsey and Imoen alone. It is never a good idea to leave spellcasters alone, as Kelsey demonstrates here. Jaheira ran back into the fray and her AI script kicked in, making her cast Implosion. The finishing blow was like a show-down scene straight out of a movie. As Rena fired a Bolt of Lightning, the Shadow Dragon prepared to Wing-Buffet her. It takes time for a bolt to fly to a Dragon, so they both ended up hitting each other simultaneously. The Shadow Dragon failed its' save and took the full damage from the Bolt of Lightning. Rena got clocked by the Wing-Buffet and started sliding away. The Shadow Dragon now counts as Rena's greatest kill. ADD] Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. It figures that the ONE and ONLY time Rena connects with a hit, it ends up being the killing blow. ~~~~ ~~~~ During the course of the fight with the Shadow Dragon, Jaheira's script had made her gulp down a Potion of Storm Giant Strength( 24 STR). STR damage bonuses applies to enchanted bullets. Pity the Shade Lord. Cheers. [ 06-08-2006, 05:42 AM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ] |
Just out of interest Dundee, did you backstab Amalas? if so how much damage did it do and did it kill him outright? Anyone know how much HP that powerhouse actually has?
~~~~ ~~~~ Fought Kuroisan for the first time. In most of my games, I sold off Celestial Fury +3, and never got the encounter. It was... pretty anti-climatic. It only took me one reload to figure out Kuroisan's FATAL flaw. Once again, it had to do with the AI's method of targetting. We all have heard tales of glorious battle as people ran around districts, shot Kuroisan with normal ammunition and ran away. How annoying his acidic backlash is. How breaching him is so difficult because of his multiple spells and contingencies. Now... I shall tell you of a tactic that will virtually ensure the following, 01) NO MORE RUNNING. 02) NO MORE PAIN. 03) Just sweet stinky cheese. Not even UserUnfriendly's Cheese Guide has this tactic, and that's saying a lot... Man... I can't believe I'm still making new cheese everytime I start playing BG2 again... The only requirement for this tactic, is the Staff of Magi, or multiple Potions of Invisibility; besides the usual normal ammunition of course. ~~~~ ~~~~ Meet Kuroisan. The infamous Acid Wu-Jen. ![]() Now meet Kuroisan. The monkey in Rena's game of Monkey. ![]() ~~~~ ~~~~ Monkey? Yes, Monkey. The game where the designated monkey had to try and catch the ball as it was being passed around within a circle of people. I have not seen Kuroisan's AI script yet, but apparently, he is programmed to attack Mages and Sorcerers first AT ALL COST. So... Imoen: "Now you see me, now you don't" Kelsey: "Look out behind you! I'm behind you... NOT!" Imoen: "Here, monkey! Good monkey!" Kelsey: "You can hit me! Honest! Just give it a try!" Kuroisan: "Oh... this is not a good day..." By simply passing the SotM between Imoen and Kelsey, Kuroisan ran like an idiot inbetween the two of them, while the rest of the party fired away with normal ammunition. When Kuroisan went invisible, you can still see his silver circle, so... no problem there. Eventually, Kuroisan ran out of Stoneskins, and HE ran away, not me. Now that he was defenseless... it was up to Rena to finish the job. The initial backstab of 151dmg did not kill him... Man... how much HP does this guy have? No matter... the second backstab killed him. ![]() ~~~~ ~~~~ If you prefer to fight Kuroisan 'fair and square', prepare the following in a Spell Trigger. PfMagical Weapons Spell Immunity:Evocation Spell Shield Refresh the PfMW when necessary. He will just whack aimlessly away at your Mage while the rest of your party kill him. |

Now if that isn't an advertisement to play this game, nothing is. No More Running! No More Pain! No, folks, we guarantee you nothing but Sweet Stinky Cheese and a victory for your people! Come on down! We have everything you need right here to wax that ogre magi that's been harassing your townsfolk. Dragon problems? Pshaw, we have the herbs that will make the fiercest red dragon playful like a little kitten! A horde of rats rushing to swarm your town? We have rodent killers which are not only one hundred percent lethal, but perfectly safe to be handled by your children!

Maybe I simply entered the sewers and explored clockwise, and never even saw the party. Or maybe I did see them, and decided to leave them for later. Quote:

Dundee, what types of AI script are you using for your characters? I want to try a game where I only control the PC, but I'm not quite up to the pain of letting the normal AI handle things...

I can confirm,from one of my recent games, that Spell Turning stops Imprisonment,at least the one of the book.And as SoS said it does it once.
IIRC even the normal Mage spell can do it and for more times in high levels. But I am not so sure about this. But,as Dundee said, against the Hive Mother it would be useless. And I didn't know that Spell Shield block the Anti-Magic rays.The only way I had found without the Shield or the Cloak of Cheese, was using the Boots of Cheese (Ritual)+ 100% MR . This can block all of their Rays (except from Imprisonment of course). @ SixOfSpades Nice the trick with Insect Plague + Stealth. These insects must be very special ![]() [ 06-08-2006, 06:33 PM: Message edited by: thetruth ] |

That does not seem to be how Spell Turning works in my game. Hmm... weird.
As for what AI Scripts I am using, my own. After all, who else but me will know how I want the NPCs to react. I modify them as I go along, editing the scripts as I gain new spells/items or change priorities. Due to this however, my scripts are almost always in a state of incompletion. I think the only time I produced a 'final' script was for Icewind Dale:Heart of Winter:Trials of the Luremaster. Making a... 'final' script for BG2 is near-nigh impossible. Given the amount of mods and custom items/spells, to produce a script that can cover everything is almost sheer lunacy. I can make a script that only covers the default game installation( therefore no conflicts when anybody else uses it), but then it would be incomplete for a modded game. Oh the conundrum! |

It would be better if you read the following completely before viewing the screenshots.
FF0000"> "Where... Where am I?" "You are dead, son." "Father? But how?" "Urm-hrm, as I was saying. You are dead, son." "I... oh." "Now, far from it to be me to berate you for dying, but was it so hard to spawn some progeny before you did?" "You know how the females are in the Athkhala region... Father. I swear the Orcs I kee-kept in my army have more collective intelligence than any one of them; and with Orcs, that is saying a lot." "You speak ill of their wit, but I saw no different in your final battle. Oh yes, do not look too surprised. Even the dead get bored enough once in a while to see what is going on in the mortal world. I was... disappointed, son." "It was not of my doing!" "Excuses, excuses. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, your stupidity killed you." "I was controlled by malignant forces! My will bent by some unknown Geas that compelled me to behave in a manner most unlike me!" "Oh? Is that so?" "Yes, Father. It is so. You have seen me battle before, before that damned old man came to take you away and scarred me for life. I do not behave like this!" "Even so, it is too late. My line, OUR line, has ended. Sigh..." ~~~~ ~~~~ Rena! She's a sweet little girl! Rena! Her smile's like a pearl! She'll grin as she goes behind your back, Go into stealth and give it a hearty whack! I dunno where Air Elementals have critical parts, She must have stabbed them all, in their imaginary hearts! Rena! She's a sweet little girl! Rena! Her smile's like a pearl! Her face so innocent and full of charm, You'll never expect her to deal you harm! The bad wolfweres tried to backstab her! But it was Rena who plunged into their fur! Rena! She's a sweet little girl! Rena! Her smile's like a pearl! From Candlekeep to Windspear Hills, She has had time to hone her skills. Old enemies from times long past, Are just fated to become a chunky blast! Rena! ~~~~ ~~~~ During the fight with Tazok and his minions, Chieftain Dig-Dag panicked and ran down the stairs to Firkraag's lair. When the party went down, Minsc automatically summoned a Berserker Warrior from the Iron Horn of Valhalla. Walking towards Firkraag, Firkraag detected the Berserker Warrior's presence and immediately went hostile. Oops. Following screenshots are at 1024x768 resolution. Firkraag wing-buffeted away Jaheira, the Berserker Warrior, and Conster, his Mage. Haha... he knocked his own ally away. Not only that, he casted a Dispel Magic on Rena, which not only affected her, but Conster as well, stripping Conster of ALL his combat protections! Woohoo! Free kill. Firkraag's next action was to cast Lower Fire Resistance on Rena, followed by his breath attack. Fortunately, unlike other times, I managed to kill Conster before Firkraag toasted him, so I got the XP for killing Conster. I purposely placed Kelsey and Imoen at the sides, so that they would be the least affected by the wing-buffets. The body at the pillar is the Berserker Warrior. Remember that spot. Kelsey would stay at this spot for virtually the entire battle. Firkraag had more or less ignored his presence. Besides the occasional wing-buffet, Firkraag rarely attacked anybody except... ... Rena. Sigh... after the promising battle with the Shadow Dragon, I had hoped that Firkraag would have better AI, but the opposite turned out to be true. I had made Rena run behind Mazzy and Jaheira on the stairs, and Firkraag CHASED after her, running past Kelsey, the Berserker Warrior, Mazzy, and Jaheira! Talk about obsession! Due to this flaw, I actually managed to make Mazzy BLOCK Firkraag on the staircase as Rena ran for dear life to the opposite end of the cavern, where outside of Firkraag's visual range, I managed to change her armour to that of the Red Dragon Scale Armour +2( made from the Red Dragon from the Random Outdoor Encounters mod). E-yup... that is right, I changed armour during a battle. Just try to imagine a halfling BLOCKING a full-grown Red Dragon... Oh, and while Rena was running away, Firkraag launched a breath attack at Rena. I had to literally pause the game, while the incoming fireball of doom was in the air, to drag out the Cloak of Mirroring from Rena's Bag of Holding, equip the cloak on her, and drink a Potion of Superior Healing( Rena only had 23hp at that time). Mazzy's valiant efforts would not last forever however, as Firkraag finally wing-buffeted her away, and ran streaking past Kelsey, a Skeleton Warrior, Imoen, the Berserker Warrior, and an unconsicious Mazzy to seek out Rena who was OUTSIDE of his visual range at the VERY FAR END of the cavern. Talk about single-minded... Ah, this fight is becoming a joke. After wing-buffeting Rena into a corner( I highlighted her circle to make it easier to see), I decided that since he is going to ignore Kelsey, Kelsey will make him understand why it is never, never, NEVER a good idea to ignore Sorcerers. Since the very beginning, I have not used the PRATI tactic, and Kelsey's barrage here is only a TIR minor special. I do not plan to use PRATI until I have reached ToB. Notice how only Rena is badly beaten up, while the rest of the party is hale and hearty... If you wondering why the whole party is fatigued, that is because I completed the Neb quest prior to coming to Windspear Hills. If you think Neeber is bad... try enduring the whole party whining about lack of rest throughout THE ENTIRE WINDSPEAR HILLS DUNGEON! Oh my goodness! The mental pain... supplemented by Jaheira's whining about the party's reputation, and Lilarcor... It is nearly enough to drive anyone insane. After Kelsey's Time Stop ended, Firkraag finally, FINALLY, attacked Kelsey with a wing-buffet, but it was too late. If I had to redo this fight, I would just load up Rena with AC items and Fire Resistances and do the Chicken Run... I only got her as badly beaten up as this because I did not bother to prepare the party beforehand, and basically just charged into battle, with combat tactics made on the fly. I had to RELOAD for the Shadow Dragon, but nailed Firkraag on my first try. Cheers. |
