Wow... Impressive stuff. Very nice writing, and backstabbing pictures of an Assassin are always nice. Assassins are one of the best and funnest classes to play, if you play them well. It's amusing to bypass 'difficult' enemies with a few bolts and poison.
This has certainly opened my eyes to some of the different tactics that I could use against Liches and the like. I've always just breezed through the Sahuagin City with super-low saves and IH'ed them to death. Sure, they take some damage, but that's what potions are for, yes? ![]() And Flame Arrows are lovely. Simply lovely. Slap in them for Spell Sequencers and Spell Triggers, along with a Contingency and Chain Contingency. Oh, and Improved Alacrity too. Two spellcasters doing this. It's just brutal. Slight overkill, but it's fun.

00FF00">
"Rena, all I am saying is-" "Shaddup." "But Renaaaa." "Shaddup! Shaddup! Shaddup!" Another day, another step away from the Underdark. Rena Ryuuguu and her motley crew of companions were on their way to De'Arnise Keep to answer the call for help from a lady named Nalia. Bitter memories of Rena-obsessed monsters still plagued Rena. Demon Knights, Beholders, Bodhi, etc... They all shared one thing in common. Kill Rena, and only Rena. "Imoen might have a point you know," a Half-Elf woman piped in. Her name was Jaheira, a long-time friend of Rena since Rena's Candlekeep days. "What on earth does my shampoo have to do with anything?", was Rena's cold reply. "Well, you're the only one not using the same brand as us," Imoen chirply said, "You may never know, Rena, until you try it! *laughs* " Rena sighed... but the journey to the Keep would take many more hours, and small talk was better than no talk. "So. You think that just because I am using 'Elliseme's Herbal Essence' and not Faun's... Faun's..." "Faun's Natural Extracts." "Yes, thank you, Imoen. Faun's Natural Extracts, that because of this, they single me out on purpose?" "It is certainly possible." "Right, it is soooo possible, Jaheira." Jaheira did not reply, but she did wink back. Rena felt exasperated. She knew that Jaheira and Imoen were only pulling her leg, but it did not hide the fact that thus far, a lot of powerful enemies have had fatalistic attractions to her. As an Assassin, she could stealth away from most of them, but some of the more powerful ones could see through her invisibility, and that was when the troubles started. "Then what about them!", Rena pointed behind, an accusing finger at the silent Minsc and Kelsey, the only two men in their party. Men that long ago, learnt not to butt into the women's conversations. "They certainly do not use shampoo! Why don't they get targetted?" "Ah, but you see, Rena. They are men, and men are certainly not attractive at all." "Hear, hear! You tell them as it is, Jaheira! *laughs* " "Imoen..." No retorts. No replies. Only silent faces as the men sought solace in hamsters and sorcery. "I still think it is a stupid theory." "Ah, but it is a theory that cannot be disapproved either." "Sigh..." ~~~~ ~~~~ Fast forward four hours later. Rena Ryuuguu and her friends were suddenly ambushed by a Red Dragon. The first thing that came to Rena's mind was, "Where on Toril did it come from?" The second thing on Rena's mind was, "Time to SCRAM!" With no combat protections on. Rena, Imoen and Kelsey fled for their safety while Minsc and Jaheira sought to hold back the Dragon for them. The Red Dragon attempted to Wing Buffet Minsc and Jaheira, and in the process of doing so, tripped and buffeted itself too, knocking itself out as well. There was a brief moment of awkward silence. "Does this happen often?", Kelsey asked. This was only the second Dragon he had ever seen( after Adalon, a Silver Dragon in the Underdark), and the sight before him was not quite what he had expected, given all the stories about them. "I have no idea," was Rena's reply. She too, had never fought a Dragon before. "Red Dragons are immuned to fire right?" "Yes, Kelsey. They are." "My sequencers all contain fire spells." "I know." "Most of the spells I know are fire-based." "I am aware of that." "So... what do we do now?" "I don't know! Sling a rock at it or something!" And so Kelsey did, and the Red Dragon awoke from its' slumber with a dreadful roar. "Run! Run!" They were all in a rock enclosure, and the rock walls imprisoned them against the Red Dragon. Rena was wearing a pair of Boots of Haste, and she easily gained some distance away from the Red Dragon. Kelsey was already on the far end, and continued to maintain a safe( as safe as he could tell) distance from the Red Dragon. Imoen however, was not so lucky. She had been poking the Red Dragon's nose when Kelsey attacked it. Arosed from its' slumber, the Red Dragon now towered over her petrified body. "RENA!" "RUN IMOEN! RUN!" "RENA!", Imoen screamed as the Red Dragon lifted its' foot and... "RE- huh?" ... walked over her. "What in the Nine Hells?", Rena exclaimed. "Oh no... Kelsey! I think its' mad at YOU!" Kelsey hung his head. He only had fire spells left, and he was quite literally caught inbetween a Red Dragon and a rock wall. Gripping his staff, he mustered what was left of his courage, and heaved his staff high above his head. Closing his eyes, he swung his staff with all his might at the passing dust trail of the Red Dragon. "Huh?", was all Kelsey could think of to say. "The blazes?!", Rena said, as a dreadful dawning realisation began to fall upon her. "WHY ME?! WHAT DID I DO?" The Red Dragon roared once more and swiped Rena off her feet into a rock wall. Her body shuddered from the impact and her vision began to blur. "Me... me... it's always ME!" By this time, Jaheira and Minsc had recovered from their dazed state and saw the terrible scene before them. "Oh no," Jaheira thought, "Rena's getting angry. We need to resolve this quick, before she gives in to her instinct." "RENA!", Jaheira shouted, "Run around Imoen!" "Huh? Why me?" "I have a theory! Just be quiet and do as I say!" "Hur, okay. But if anything happens to me, you better make sure I get resurrected. Rena! Rena! Run around me!" Rena slurred and struggled to regain her bearings. The Red Dragon was closing in fast, and there no way she could melee it. For lack of a better plan, she decided to just follow Jaheira's command and ran towards Imoen. Running pass the Red Dragon, she barely avoided one of its' swipes. Reaching Imoen, she mumbled, "Now what?" "Just keep running around Imoen, and keep your distance from the Red Dragon!" "Urgh... it doesn't make any sense, but okay." "Minsc! Come with me! We are going to attack the Red Dragon!" "Mdm, Yes Mdm!" And so a bizarre Merry-Go-Round began, with Imoen as the pivot. Imoen laughed as she petted the Red Dragon's scales each time it passed by close enough. Minsc and Jaheira chased after it and attempted to hit it as many times as possible. Kelsey? He just kept slinging. "Look at me, Jaheira! No combat protections!" "Yes, yes, Imoen," Jaheira huffed, "Keep it up, keep it up." "AAaarrgghh-aarrggHH-AARRGGHH-AARRGGhh-" "Keep going, Rena! You're doing well! It can't catch you with your Boots of Haste!" "WHYYYYYYYY ME!" The Red Dragon eventually fell, slained by the blade of Minsc's spanking brand new Silver Sword. The rest of the journey to De'Arnise Keep was quiet. Too quiet. The malignant air from Rena as she sulked for the next four hours was depressing to the mood. Jaheira and Imoen chose not to tease her for now. Rena would eventually recover, as she usually did, after backstabbing multiple enemies. She would eventually regain her cheerful demeanour. Too bad Torgal had other plans for them. ~~~~ ~~~~ Final Snark. Red Dragon: "Your lackeys will not save you!" Me: "Nope, but your AI Script sure did!" Cheers! Out of curiosity I did some tests with the Cloak of Mirroring and I have to correct myself:
The Cloak protects someone from both Firestorms and ADHWs.I guess I got confused by the fight against Imp.Irenicus (he does wear a Cloak of Mirroring but it works differently on him for some reason). Now,trying to answer to Dundee's question on how can someone kill the Sahuagin Priestess without her summoning the Avatar, some other options could be the following : a) Casting G.Malison followed by some Horror spells. All of them should bypass the Cloak of Cheese and probably it would "break" the script (?) of the Priestess preventing her from summoning the Avatar.Symbols (Fear,Stun) should have effect on her too (unless if she is immune to fear). b) (cheese) Nature's Beauty: it can be cast while you are invisible. The cloak will not block it. c) Insect Plague/Creeping Doom should pass through the Cloak of Cheese and the Zone of Sweet Air can't remove it.The problem is that if you want to target the Priestess you will become visible, triggering her script.Using summons as targets would do the same. BUT (more cheese): if you drop an item near the Priestess it will not break your invisibility. Then you can target the item with the Insect Plague and the insects will attack the Priestess too. Jaheira with all her 5-level spells Insect Plague and her 6-level Wondrous Recall (for more I.Plague spells) should be able to kill the priestess. PS: Excellent writing Dundee. |

Im just curious: How does the possible backstabb damage of a dual Kensai/Fighter - Thief compare with the damage of an assassin?
Kind regards |
