Can we switch bodies or something so I can play BGII without knowing everyones every move?

Don't forget we've all played and replayed the game until we know it intimately - how best to use different classes and the strengths/weaknesses of various enemies for example. One of the best things about finishing it for the first time is that you get to go back with a different main character, maybe a few mods, and enjoy the replayability.

I had a break from game for a couple of weeks and now Im playing again but boy this is difficult (underdark). Those beholders and gauths etc. They stun and stone my characters all the time. Constant dying and reloading. Very tough and not so fun. Well, maybe I will learn better tactics against those beasts in some day. Somehow it seems that this party of 6 is too big. Someone is constantly dying and battles are confusing. Maybe 3 or 4 person party would be better.

Ah yes, well you have plenty of sympathy from me - that area is an absolute nightmare and really really tough. Don't judge your party too large because they die here.

There's a nifty shield you can pick up (bit late for you now!) that reflects their nasty rays back (shield of balduran?)

Also the Cloak of Mirroring will probably do the job.

Your best bet is to group your party at the entrance and send one buffed character ahead. Either take a few invisibility potions and sneak up on your target or try and get your magic resistance high and perhaps try protections like Spell Trap and Spell Turning (not sure how well they'll stand up against an anti-magic ray though).

If you're finding it impossible then either drop the difficulty for this area, or go after another race instead. You only need to do one and I've found the lizards to be the easiest by far as it's mostly melee - an unprepared party shouldn't get toasted in there.

I think the thing I hate most about the Beholder Hive is that when you go in, your entire party is facing the wrong direction: Your Tank is at the back, safely shielded behind your Thieves and Mages. What the heck is up with THAT?!?!

Korgan: "Gee, Edwin, this cavern we're exploring now is so dark and scary, ANY sort of nasty danger might be waiting to jump out and kill us. Why don't you go in there first."
Edwin: "Hey, sure thing."

Moral: Learn from experience (or from me) and swap your party's Marching Order around a bit before you go in.

Beholders' Anti-Magic Ray instantly dispels everything magical about the person it hits (including protections like Spell Trap and Spell Turning), except
1) Enchantments conferred just by having certain magical items equipped,
2) Most attributes of being Polymorphed into another form, and
3) One certain spell protection that I won't name here because it's not mentioned in the Spell Description, and therefore is likely a bug (it's almost certainly cheesy as all hell, especially since it also confers immunity to Wing Buffet).

All Beholder rays can be shrugged off by Magic Resistance, though.

shamrock_uk, you are correct, it is the shield of balduran that reflects the beholder's funny look they give you. 'off topic, Beholders remind me of those aliens you fight in commander keen 1.'
