mazzy question

I'm a bg gamer for a very long time now, haven't touched it for more than two years and here are some questions.

1. would directx 9.0c affects the game? any downside i mean.
2. I have played the game more than ten times, can't remember the first time but i think i successfully completed mazzy's quest. i have throne of bhaal installed and something wrong is going. could someone tell me the step by step way to complete the quest. big tango in advance.

1) It works fine with DirectX 9b on my computer, so I would imagine 9c causes no problems.

i) Message that relative is sick, return to house.
ii) Allow Mazzy to leave the party
iii) Go and find Wallace in the market. He'll tell you he has a new supplier, an apprentice at the temple. Tell him that Mazzy's relative is ill to get this info, not much point in bashing him around.
iv) Go to the temple and talk with the Priest, respectfully. Explain the problem and the Priest will search his room, discovering poisons and a symbol to another God IIRC.
v) The apprentice is summoned and goes hostile.
vi) Administer the beatings he deserves.
vii) You should find an anditode on his body - return to the house and talk to Mazzy
viii) I think she waits another day for her sister to recover - you can amuse yourself by finding inventive ways to torment Noober.
(ix) Let her rejoin.

gee thanks...

but i think number three is 'after' you had a chat with the relatives right? well in my case you can't talk to anybody... tried to tlk to wallace but all he does is sell me junk. this happened after i installed tob with the latest patch (which was latest 2 years ago). it hever happened to me without the expansion.

Anyone know how this quest is SUPPOSED to work? I know all the spoiler info on it, but my game refuses to run it. I know to do the cernd quest, you need to have cernd in the party when you kill faldorn. Same goes for Nalia (well, maybe not, but if you don't have her in the party, you lose out on 10000 gold). I got mazzy in the party and solved the umar hills deal, but my global variables only gave me a spawndannotimer that doesn't change past a certain point. Anyone know how it should work?

I've had this quest break at least a dozen times and through some trial and error the problem has always been the same : if at *any* time between getting the 'poison' quest from "Book 'em" Danno and the party arriving at the Fentan house, someone in the party is approached by a non-party NPC who has dialogue regarding another quest.

This has included :

- the messenger from the the Keep (PC stronghold quest)
- messenger for Annoyman to go to Radiant Heart
- Jans' cousin
- Dermin

Nowadays I try to make sure Mazzys' quest doesn't overlap with any others - and keep a few extra save games just in case
