Erm... Wands? A C/M will never need to worry about killing Trolls, because they will always have at least one Wand of Fire with quite a few charges left. What else will you spend your money on?
Being petty here, but... casting time.

That said, a C/M is pretty powerful as you will have access to all known spell combinations( except Druidic), including those that mix Arcane and Cleric spells together.

However, the C/M's method of infinite spells during battle is dicey, and robs it of spell variety in its' level 9 spell memorisations. It is however, failsave and when done correctly in conjunction with its' other spells, can potentially outblast the Sorcerer in terms of damage output per round.

Excluding the BunnyNuke, nobody but the Sorcerer does the BunnyNuke as efficiently.

Just a note, mirror image will block almost every trap (possibly every trap, its possible that the maze trap happened to hit me instead of an image 4 times in a row.... but not likely) The only problem with mirror image is that its a luck thing. you get 1 image for every two levels i believe, and there is always a chance that the spell/arrow/sword/whatever will completely miss the images and hit you.
If you mean the spellhold one i don't think there is anyway to avoid/disarm it, or at least its the only trap i have never managed to disarm

Minor spell turning, and spell turning, do the job far better. They also are VERY useful in sorcerer vs. mage or priest battles. Ever seen a flamestrike/call lightning being reflected back on its caster? Quite satisfying.
Weren't we talking in relation to traps, you can't kill a trap.

I know. Spell Turning protects against traps, and has the added bonus of being effective against opponent wizards.

I have to admit that so far, he's doing well on his own. I was just in the Circus tent amd it was pretty easy. I just cast minor spell turning, let the monsters get close to me and cast a close range fireball!
You can't do that with a party!

I dont know any way to get around that trap, but that wasnt the one i was talking about. Note i said a maze trap, the spellhold one isnt a maze trap, it just insta-kills you. The maze trap in question was the one where you find the horn of vahlia (spelling?) it got through mirror image 4 times before i finally gave in and cast my last SI:Conjuration. Didnt get though that.

I thought you meant the trap in the maze under spell hold , not a trap who 'casts' maze.

Well, im not sure how your game works, but minor spell turning doesn't bounce fireballs in my game, and i still take damage. Only spells i can think of that would protect you from a fireball targetted at the ground near you (not at you) is (minor) Globe of Invulnerability and Spell Immunity: Evocation.
