Romance - looking for spoilers

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, can someone please tell me what is involved with this romance stuff? What is the big deal with it and what not because I am sure I did not go through it or unlocked the right pathway. I assume it did not affect finishing the game as I am in ToB now, but what else might I have missed. And is there a way to tell if the romance branch kicked off?

you can have a romance with aeire, jahiera, viconia or (for a female PC) anomen

if one of them are in the party they will (quite qucikly) start 'romance talks' (identifiable by the lovely music) - if you take the right options the romance continues - i've never played one out myself so i don't know how they 'end' so i'll leave that to someone more knowedgable than i

You also have to be human, elven, or half-elven. If not I'm pretty sure you can't have a romance.

Basically you and the pc you decide to romance will become closer thorough these love talks. depending on who it is there are different approaches you should take. just think of the background, personality, cercomstances ect. and you'll get it right.

After a while ( if you've said the right thing and all ) your partner might ask you to sleep with them, this is your choice and, depending on who your romancing can have an adverse effect on your relationship.

There are also some side quests and events that come with the romnaces. While not big there somthing to do i spose. Plus you get more experience and all that lark wot?.

Im not sure if this is true but im pretty sure you can concieve a child that is just like a piece of baggage in your inventory, just thought id mention it.

Lastly, at the end of ToB there is alternitive ending for the NPC you are romnacing if it went far enough.

just a hint...be careful how close you get to an NPC somthing might just happen to them along the course of events eh?

The four romancable Bioware NPCs are Aerie, Jaheira, Viconia, and Anomen. Male PCs can romance the first three, but only a female PC can romance Anomen. Aerie romances humans, elves, half-elves, and gnomes; Viconia romances humans and half-orcs (and half-elves? not sure); Jaheira and Anomen romance humans, elves, and half-elves. If you're a dwarf or a halfling, you're out of luck.

You'll know when an NPC is trying to romance the PC when a dialogue box pops up with music. If you think the relationship might have ended, try this:

CLUAConsole:CheckGlobal("RomanceActive") (I think this is right...)

Another way to check is to install the flirtpacks from PPG and try talking to the NPC. If the romance is still active, they'll flirt. If not, they won't. (Sometimes characters WON'T flirt because of where they are in the romance.)

gnomes and half orcs can romance as well. ive forgotten with whom though

All the romances will romance halflings as well. It's only dwarves that are totally out of luck.

They will? Even Jaheira? (I only tried it with her but never heard the music. Either she gets picky about dialogue options or something glitched someplace.)
