Bleh. Now it's time for me to learn how to write mods and introduce my half-dragon monk who gets tremendous combat bonuses from his "dracokenjutsu" and various 2d fighting game references such as the shoryuken, the hadoken, and the ume-shoryu

There is a young woman from Daggerdale in the book Finder's Bane who is a Paladin of Lathander--and I would guess who is not much older than this character. Apparently, all paladins are not bound to wearing plate mail.

Had she been a priest, mage, archer, or even a rogue it would have been more acceptable, but at 15 years old you're not developed enough to become some uber melee killing machine.

You might say she can do that because of some divine belssing. But then why waste a blessing on a girl to change her into an accomplished soldier when you could instead use that belssing on someone that's already more powerfull, making him even more powefull?
Oh, I'm sure if you put somebody into an environment suffered by constant raids and attacks by an enemy they would become quite the accompliced killer (not to even speak of forced mental maturity) by the age of 15--if not able to withstand a beating.

The gods in Forgotten Realms work in mysterious ways; who says but not that becoming a paladin at such an early age would lead to an even stronger person?

I can understand becoming a Paladin at age 15, but only just barely. IF one or both parents were Paladins and raised their child accordingly, IF the local area was full of monsters and crises against which the child could heroically struggle and thus gain prestige and life experience, and of course IF the child was extremely precocious in both intelligence and maturity.

I can also understand a romance with a 15-year-old; as Luvian said, people of all ages play this game. Though I think the "dirty old man" factor could have been avoided by swapping Saerileth's gender.

My problems with her are as follows: Paladin at 15 I can see, but NOT a Cavalier. I am willing to accept a young, bird-boned (going by her portrait) girl filling random foes and monsters with arrows. But that same little girl standing up to an Ogre? No way--she'd get knocked on her ass before you could say "Lay on Hands."

The big one--Chosen of her God at age 15? Not in a million years. I offer Keldorn for comparison: Sixty years old, served Torm faithfully all his life, I believe the most respected member of the Order that there is, and what spriritual benefits does he reap from that? Well, according to his ToB epilogue (after he's completed playing a major role for the side of Good in the whole Bhaalspawn saga, of course), he dies honorably in battle and has his body removed from the field by the hand of Torm, and he later appears in silent attendance at the avatar's side. That's it.
In comparison, having Saerileth just apparently "born into" the rank of Chosen smacks of being painfully immature. Sorry, but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em.

I am playing the game with her right now. We just got finished with the D'Arnise Estate. She is very realistically written. It's fun to have a fellow Paladin instead of a Cleric to romance. Hm, I may get Keldorn and we'd have a three-Paladin party, with Imoen, Nalia, and Viconia.

In terms of the whole, 'Young warrior' thing. Didn't I read somewhere about two twelve year old guerrila fighters, who lead a warband or something - in Cambodia was it? So I guess it can happen given the right (or more accurately, wrong) circumstances.

Well, Joan of Arc was (apparently) about 12 when she started having visions and 18 when she was burned at the stake after leading an army. Now, she probably wasn't much of a melee fighter, but not bad for a paladin.

we're still working on improving the mod. everyday it seems we're adding a bit of code here, an interjection there. v4 is ready to go, I think, but I'm gonna wait a bit to release it (read: my website doesn't have the data transfer space!). people have been DLing the mod like mad.
