Personally, I don't see why an Undead Hunter would follow the advice of a person (who might be a Vampire) who wants them to go to the Graveyard District while the sun is down.

Maybe he's planning to do a little undead hunting...

I don't think he has a magnetic plate attached to the back of his armour proclaiming "I'm an undead hunter. Bite me".

For that matter, I don't see how a character imported from BG1 could really become an Undead Hunter unless he got a real turn on from smiting all of those powerful skeletons and uber l337 skeleton warriors.

Not as if the PC has ever met a vampire before is it?

Personally, I don't see a problem with that. I he were the fanatic, distorted and mentally instable Undead Hunter that would stab down anyone remotely suspective, then, yes, he would not follow Valen to the Graveyard.

And why Valen contacts an undead hunter? Maybe because he hasn't gotten the label "Undead Hunter" written all over him. I doubt you could see by appearance someone is an undead hunter, really.

This reminds of an early post that wryly commented on the sometimes ludricous situations one can encounter in the game, such as the thieves who jump you in the Bridge District.

I quote out of context and probably incorrectly, but here we go.

"What sane mugger would talk smack to a party of well armed and heavily armoured people?"

This is off-topic, but there is a great moment in Planescape: Torment, where the PC figures out that a woman is trying to lure him into an ambush by muggers and then has a dialogue option to give her advice on how to pick out a better victim next time.

Unfortunately, [CHARNAME] isn't as clever as most of us gamers are. Can we blame it on a lack of intelligence and an overdone portion of strength or charisma?
