HELP (with Weapon Proficencies)

Okay, WHAT IS REQUIRED for someone to use a wakizashi or ninja-to??? I just can't figure it out! It says Scimitar/wakizashi/ninja-to, and even though Jaheira has scimitar she can't use it.

Also, as a second question, if i'm a fighter, and I can't wear something, but mages can, if I dual-class to mage, will I be able to wear it?

1) Scimitair's are a Ninja-To type of weapon. But since Jaheira is a F/D she can't use it becuase it's a sharp weapon. IIRC F/D can use only blunt weapons.

2) You mean some sort of Robe? Yes, if you Dual-Class you will be able to wear it.

This is not exactly correct because spears, scimitars, darts, and daggers are usable by F/Ds and I believe that they wouldn't be classified as blunt. Basically, although the wazikashi and ninja-to are grouped with the scimitar for proficiency purposes, they are not considered traditional druidic weapons.

Desuma is correct. The only edged weapon that Jahiera can use are scimitars.

You mean they're the only *slashing* weapon Druids can use. (Spears and Daggers are Piercing, and Darts are Missile.)

The traditional Druid rules forbid "the intentional use of any edged tool against any living thing," so personally I think all of the weapons I named above should be restricted. But then, of course, I'd have swarms of Druid fans mad at me for leaving them with nothing but Clubs, Staves, and Slings.

What do you mean by "traditional Druid"?

In AD&D terms, a druid has been able to use daggers, spears, darts, sickles, and scimitars since 1st edition rules.

I mean the archetypal Druid, before Wizards of the Coast or TSR or even Tolkien came along, I mean the guys who wore elk skulls and talked to trees.

The "edged tool / living thing" prohibition is mentioned in C.S. Lewis's That Hideous Strength, among other sources, but I'm not going to scan the whole book for the exact words just now. I just know that a Druid using bladed and piercing weapons just seems really wrong to me....but I would be willing to alter the rules a bit, so that Druids would simply refuse to touch anything made of iron, which is another very old restriction--although, technically, it was the fairy folk who abhorred iron. But I'd be perfectly OK with Druids using spears that happened to have heads made of stone rather than steel.

Ohh, thaaaat druid.

The people who worshipped Stonhenge and sacrificed animals and things. I don't think anybody knows what weapons those people used, but knives/daggers help with sacrifices a whole lot.

As far as not using iron goes, Daggers can be made of flint...or bone, or antler, or obsidian, or wood, or bronze, or even ice if you're not concerned with reusability.

On the "edged tool / living thing" rule, however, it's interesting that yes, you CAN use a steak knife at dinner, but you can't dig with a shovel. (Performing sacrifices would violate this rule, unless you consider the sacrifice as a special kind of death and therefore sanctioned under the Druidic laws.)
