If you have a cleric you can use the turn undead to either make them run away, or kill/control them depending on you alignment. Use spells that are good against undead, sunfire, false dawn etc and any weapons such as the daystar or the mace of disruption. I dont know what level you are at and what items/party so it makes it difficult to advise you specificaly

The basic fight advice works well against shadows,
Don’t just go charging in. Send one team member ahead to draw a one or two of them out at a time. Keep your party together so you can protect anyone who happens to become paralyzed. If you are talking about the approach to the temple sanctuary this tactic will be useless as the shadows here seem to regenerate. Once you approach the temple ruins keep most of your party in the woods near the temple ruins and then select one party member to go activate the light gem in the center of the ruins. Use your thief’s hide in shadow’s ability or your clerics sanctuary spell or just have someone drink a potion of invisibility and head off to the stained glass light gem control and turn it on. Turning it on will cause your team member to become visible and spawn more shadows so have that team member run for the light gem. Any shadows or shadow wolves near the gem get blasted so all that character has to do is get near it and he/she will be safe. After the close ones have been blasted to nothingness venture out of the protective light halo a bit to draw in any other shadows that are hanging around. As soon as they charge you run back to the light. Once most are dead just have your party join reform near the light gem and the entrance to the temple ruins.

You're probably being level drained as well as damaged. Make sure that the people closest to the shadows have Negative Plane Protection cast on them, or the Amulet of Power equipped.

There are several types of monsters that could fit that description. In the Umar Hills I believe you encounter only Shadows and Shadow Fiends.
Shadows can drain your strength by 2 points if they hit you. Also, they require +1 weapons or greater to hit. Shadow Fiends can make the target 'Held' (as per spell) if they hit. They also require +1 weapons or greater to hit. I suspect you aren't high enough level to have False Dawn (level 5 or 6 Priest Spell) or Sunray (level 7 priest spell). The best thing to use against them is Holy Smite. Lots of Holy Smite.

I just completed the Temple Ruins with a solo Bard (Skald kit). So far, MY best friend against Undead creatures of ALL sorts has been the scroll "Protection from Undead". It has fairly long duration and ANY undead creature will simply ignore your character while the protection is in place.
I have Tactics and several other Mods installed, but even the liches in the lower part of the temple just stood their patiently while I whacked on them with Daystar or AzureEdge. I was literally getting eaten alive in the by the Crypt King in the Graveyard District when I finally remembered I had some of those Protection scrolls in my case. After that, the Crypt King just stood there while I practiced my swordmanship on him. ![]()

I believe he's talking about the entrance to the dungeon in the Temple Ruins area, you have to bend the mirror there, to get light again. DD

I just got through the Temple ruins myself and I found one really good spell is summon lesser air elemental. Hes imune to every shadow attack while extremely effective. I use them to clear out areas, or atleast wear them down.
The only problem is one location which, when entered can trigger the arrival of old Bone head (you have to have been through the temple to understand that title). One question for the board, I found a piece of a person's journal early in the temple. Since I wacked old Shade, I have checked every stone pillar to find this guy's cache. What am I dong wrong. |

Hey, if I went straight for the Planar sphere stronghold I have to go through the Umar Hills so how do I avoid the Ranger Quest. Besides, I need the gold, the work out and it keeps me out of the city where I can use Magic without legal issues. Put in numbers I need 20,000 GP to start Chapter 3, 5,000 for the license, and all the +2 or +3 items I can find.
