I'm looking for some new items to...actually let me rephrase that, I'm looking for some balanced new items to download via a mod or something. I've had plenty of experience with the Item Upgrade Mod and those are a bit on the overpowered side. I like most of the items from that one that fall under the "convience" upgrades, but going from +4 to +5 on an already super bad ass Celestial Fury is not what I'm looking for right now. The readme to the Underrepresented Items Mod gives me the impression of taking it one step further in the powergaming direction. So forget those two.

The other day I downloaded the Sorceror's Place Item pack and this thing makes Weimer's items look like standard drops from muggers in the docks. I don't have access to the listings right now but I know there are several rings that give spells to each class with the spellcasting ability - even rangers and paladins. Not bad, right, except it adds tons of additional spell slots. For a mage for instance, 7 level 9 spells. WHAT! Same thing for a druid, I bought one just to see if it actually did what it says and put it on Jaheira when she could cast two level 5 spells and it bumped her total up to 5! Plus extra 6th and 7th level slots. There is a pair of boots that when equipped bestows Free Action, Improved Haste and the effects from a Freedom spell(I guess you don't get Imprisoned). A thieving ring that grants +50% to picking pockets, open locks and find traps and it also does something else if I recall. There are a bunch of +5 weapons with multiple affects. I think there are three Bags of Holding. And whats worse is the price. I wish I could remember exact numbers but I can't. I want to say about half of the items were in the 1000-3000 gold piece range.

After uninstalling that mod I tried the Dark Ritual mod. I really like this one. There are some more powerful ones like a +4 short sword that does a little fire damage and +5 axe that does an extra 2d6 of damage but for the most part they seem pretty balanced to me. Some black dragon scale that's AC 4 and grants +25% electrical res. A belt of that gives a +1 to AC and lets you cast Blade Barrier 3xday. A +2 Pole Axe that does 1-10+2. The merchant in this one also deals all of the items Ribald has when his store upgrades. Nothing really Uber there except for the posibility of acquiring level 9 scrolls very early on. Prices are fairly steep to reasonable but you do get more cash back when selling items ala Ribald.

If anyone has any suggestions or experience with any other item mods fill me in I'm still looking for the perfect fit - something different but not gamebreaking.

And I would also like to send a big shout out to Icelus and the Pocket Plane Group for their work making these mods so easily accessible. Kudos. And the modders too. Word.

One of my favorite sources for new items is Arundor's Abode. You have to pick and choose what you want and the descriptions are sorely lacking on some of the items (meaning you have to either download them to learn what they do or just skip them completely). There are also a good share of terribly overpowered items (some grant complete immunities0 but there are also several nice items that are well balanced for many different classes.

There was also a discussion and creation of several items by a member of Ironworks a little over a year ago. He was hoping to package all the items into a Merchant Mod and make it available for the game - giving the players an extra merchant in the game.

I've done a Search of Shadows of Amn and both Archives but can't find it. The thread was entitled "Jaleirho's Super Happy Magic Shoppe" or something similar, but several Searches with different key words turned up nothing. There were some very good items discussed in that thread that were later created by "Jaleirho" (the name of the member's Merchant - not the name of the member himself).

Hope that helps at least a little.

That is definately one I'm going to start browsing Cerek, thanks. There are a lot of terribly overpowered items like you said, but since you get to pick and choose I don't have to get them. I just might get that Hackmaster +12 though!

hehehe...I've looked at that one myself a few times. I recommend Gandorf's Weapons. There are several items (many based on Greek mythology figures) that are nice items without being terribly overpowered. I've used katana's of Poseidon and Prometheus (they do +10 pts of cold and fire damage respectively) and the Club of Hercules grants the wielder (almost definitely Jaheira) a Strength of 25 (just like Crom Faeyr). There is also a very nice dagger that does decent (but not excessive) Fireball-type damage.

The one disadvantage to many of the "collections" is that no description is given of the individual items. You just have to download the entire collection and then browse that selection on an individual item basis.

Still, there are lots of good items to be found there. It's the best such site I've found so far (but I'm always willing to learn about more ).
