I used to think it would be real difficult to run with only one character. Now I am running a solo Mage/Thief and having lots of fun. The first few levels were tough. I hated wolves! But now I am 10th level and I just took out Durlag's 4 Warders on my first try! I love 48 point backstabs.

My only real cheats have been giving myself "Summon Dire Wolf" as a special ability to help out at the start, and a cap remover. That and using every trick I know from playing BG through several times.

If you want to avoid the hard start, just use an old save maybe from Cloakwood, and drop off everyone but the PC. Try it! Its fun!

I once tried soloing a multi-classed cleric/ranger. I got to the thieves' maze before I was forced to admit defeat. Besides, there's no way on earth I'd have managed to kill Sarevok and his gang alone.

I think it might be fun except when you run into a group of fighters or archers that are strong without any healing or any archer.

I am currently soloing with Mayhem my Elven Fighter/thief. It's very cool to play the game in a different way after you have finished it about a dozen times like I have. I calls for rethinking about strategies and such. I have now fully become a worshipper of Algernon's Cloak. This really is one of the best items for low level guys. Oh and BTW I did not cheat with anything

If you wear the girdle of piercing and boots of avoidance you get +8 armor class vs arrows. Not much hits you.

I am wearing the boots of speed instead so I can outrun most anything. With stealth I can plan my AOE attacks to take out most of the party and backstab any survivors.

I have a solo game running with a mage/thief elf and the biggest difficulty is about INVENTORY SPACE!!

You don't carry much with one char and going out and in, dungeon to market, market to dungeon, is very boring and slow the game.

I finally decided to invest in a NPC to help me carry stuff.
I had a gauntlet of ogre power for him (18/00). Since you are alone, money is not a problem and I equipped the NPC very well.
(Previously sold magic items buyed back)

I choose Yeslick, because with him we have together 4 different classes (mage, thief, fighter and cleric) and for the main reason he was useful in cloakwood, first time used as a stuff carrier and healer.

By moment i think about coming back alone but when i see how helpful he is, i just keep it. Together we are complete. No more NPC are needed.

Soloing was more fun than I thought too. I did it with a Neutral Evil (multi) cleric-mage and I came to really appreciate the power of that class. Great class for soloing. People here have soloed with many different types of classes. I think the consensus is that mage is the hardest.

Hi Lemernis , good to see your still out and about.

I've been trying out a solo Fighter/Mage and I like the new challange. All those easy fights take on a whole new meaning when you have nobody to back you up. It also makes one appreciate the value of some of the potions and low level scrolls - before they were junk, now they are life-savers!

I have just finished my first solo attempt with a thief, it was great (Even beat Drizzt heh heh heh, spent alot of time in the shadows for that one). It game wasn't as hard as I thought it would be solo, but then again with any other class I doubt i would have done it, I relied on my hide in the shadows and back stab far too much and poison is a must have (Dagger of venom, Arrows of biting)

Just imported her into BG2 and am currently in Ust Natha and am enjoying the game more than i ever have before god i love soloing.
