Ok, that's a valid point. I'll withdraw my speculations about the future of games turned movies. Final Fantasy was half-decent popcorn entertainment, but hardly good film-making. Despite the huge names in the voice acting crew, I didn't think the acting was very inspired overall.

I mean, we have Gargoyles, ExoSquad, etc... good animation with emphasis on fantasy-realism and with serious storylines that people of all ages can enjoy.
There's some really good anime that goes for a more realistic look, though. Perfect Blue, for instance.

And Gargoyles rules!

An animated movie would do the trick, and would certainly be easier to do. And they already have the cast. But not an anime... Not to downplay the genre at all, but I just don't think the game lends itself to that sort of interpretation.
I can imagine Viconia with Narrow Anime Eyes, like in Ninja Scroll.

Same with Jaheira.

Aerie and Jan, however, need big anime eyes! Possibly Nalia.

And the possibility of Edwin having anime-like freak outs as he yells at Jaheira because of his transformation...priceless!

Dundee, Final Fantasy 7 was released as a computer game. I think that's the best one anyway. You thought BG2 had a trippy plot...

But anyway...

I'd like to see this series done as an animated film in the style of Disney's Treasure Planet and other recent non-Pixar works. A hand-drawn animation movie with various computer graphic enhancements (spells and so forth) would work well.

And again I say BG2 has top-notch voice talent. Why replace that with rhinestone-studded Hollywood stars?

I liked the Final Fantasy movie. It was good enough for me to say it is good.

Of course, I have never ever played any of the Final Fantasy games, console-phobic that I am.

Resident Evil was... average, but I would not say it sucked. Mediorce at worst.

Erm... that is about it I guess.
Final Fantasy is a decent, enjoyable film, cannot compare to the game itself of course, but enjoyable nontheless. I cannot really say it *suck.* Residential Evil is ok too (providing that I like Milla )

actually, imo, Final Fantasy turns out to be decent only because it's different from Final Fantasy game series. The movie is *much* smaller in scale and weaker in drama compared to any of the Final Fantasy game. Yet it somehow works because there's no comparison can be made: the movie doesn't try to adpat any of the game into movie; it just create a new story and characters (note, for those who don't play Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy games only share similar themes, they are individual games, not series like BG and SoA->ToB).

actually, it was released AS a PS game, but later they converted it to PC game. They did it to Final Fantasy 8 as well. Most (if not all) Japanese RPGs are plot driven; the good ones, such as Final Fantasy 7, really tell amazing, involving storie, yet mostly without the freedom that American RPGs provides. SoA sorta gets the best of both worlds imo.

totally agree with the voice acting of SoA.
However, the Pixar 3D animation may do just as good, if not better than, as the traditional animation. Not in those intentionally kid-friendly style, but in its realistic looking. Imo, the animation style of Final Fantasy the movie will serve BG series well.

If this thing were possible to be made, imo, it should be a BG saga (from BG to ToB finale); therefore, one feature film is out of the question if it's to be done right. The whole saga would be much longer than LOtR triology. So, animation series or even live action series (with high production value and talented actors; we don't need names, we need talents) will work. if go for the animation route, realistic looking animation (either traditional or 3D), featured film quality artwork (therefore no typical Japanese anime style; I'm a big fan of Japanese anime but its style and BG don't go together imo).

but in the end, the most difficult to make this project work is to determine WHO is the god-child??? so many classes and races...so many possibilites...

well, she's the *one and only* Aerie in your eyes, not in mine. She doesn't have the naive, self-induging sentimentality flavor I envision Aerie has. If her acting skill isn't sufficient to convey that particular Aerie flavor, I don't see her as Aerie at all. Is there any actress/model/whoever I think is perfrect for Aerie...none. if done in live action, I would root for looking for an unknown talent.

This is leading nowhere. My point was to express who I'd like to see playing the characters. Of course there might be an unknown actress that looks exactly like Aerie. But do we know of her? No. If you can't come up with someone who you can imagine for that role, how about commenting on suggestions already made?

No offense meant, really. I'm from Germany and I'm already having a hard time to even express my opinion.

Estella Warren doesn't have the naive looks to be a good Aerie, although there is a slight similarity, true. I still think that Calista Flockheart would be great, because she has exactly that innocent, childish charisma. Although she wouldn't win a lookalike contest...

Going by the portrait alone. Only speaking for myself, but Aerie sure doesn't look naive
