Which paladin kit do u think is best, personally, i think the benefits from the cavalier more than make up for no missiles.

Cavalier is the best. He has very good immunities. Immunity to Fear is especially useful in harder battles.

Which is not to say that the other Paladin kits are weak, of course--the Undead Hunter's abilities are worth far more than their only disadvantage: Not being able to Lay On Hands. And the Inquisitor is basically Death on a Stick to spellcasters.

I agree about the Undead Hunter.

I havent really played anything but Keldorn but I think undead hunter would be best... immunity to level drain is lifesaving in those early vampire fights.

I think the kit you choose shows how you role play or power play.
For example. I had a Half Orc Paladin of Lathander. (Undead Hunter) Hacked. Yes. Lathander sponsors many Undead Hunters, and, is the God of Renewal and Rebirth. A lonesome Half Orc longed for rebirth and acceptance. And found it. He used crossbows, (To fire stakes) axes, and various swords. He was quiet, stealthy, and sneaky, played much like a tomb raiding thief. He never once used the Holy Avenger because he did not feel worthy. He only had three companions in the whole game. All chosen for role play potential. Keldorn, Mazzy, and Imoen. Mazzy was the first Halfling Paladin and Muergart was the first Half Orc Paladin. Keldorn was the wizened old instructor. Imoen was there to keep us from being uptight sticks in the mud. There was Xadaex Trollblood, my Cavalier. He barely met Paladin requirements. Every stat was low... Except for his 22 Con, which went higher when buffed. This Cavalier felt no fear because he could not seem to die. He was suicidal and did not want to be a Paladin. He wore every regeneration item I could get my paws on and was a monster chew toy. He felt no fear simply because he had given up and sought death. He was a Classic Cavalier. He too, never used the Holy Avenger because he ALWAYS carried a shield. He had a hard time hitting the side of a barn, was rude and arrogant in conversations, and was really quite a jackass, screwing up romances with both Jaheira and Aerie. Just because. On purpose. There is so much potential to make a story for any of the kits, to get inside their heads flesh them out as real characters. When I get more time, I would like to finish my Dwarven Iquisitor game. He does use the Holy Avenger, and is a hoot to watch. I wanted a Dwarf that HATED magic, inspite of being raised in Candlekeep. And I can't abide the Wizard Slayer. So I made a Dwarven Iquisitor. With his saving throws, Dispel Magic, and True Sight, he makes Wizard Chop Suey. He rescued Imoen but wont let her memorize or cast spells. Aerie too, has an empty spell book. Clerical spells are even questionable and are only used in dire emergency. I don't think there is a best kit... Each one is the perfect window into a story. |

I like the inquisitor because true sight and dispel mage (at double casting level) are invaluable spells for completing the game. It's far better than having to wait for the effects of a spell to wear off if you don't have the spell.

The immunity to level drain that an Undead Hunter gains is replacable with the Amulet of Power that you get from the Shadow Thieves right off the bat, assuming you choose them at the beginning of the game. And since most people use their paladins in the front, not being able to use ranged weapons is barely ever a hindrance. Cavaliers all the way!
