A Problem (Minor spoilers)

MINOR SPOILERS

Ok, I've run into a problem. I'm playing through Chapter 3 working with Bhodi. I'm doing the first mission where you have to go down to the docks. My computer immediatly crashes after Mook's message.

I have the following Mods installed:
Solaufein
Valen
Ashes to Embers
Ease of Use.

I also have Valen in my party and am playing an Elven Blade.

Are you patched?

I have the patches included in Ease of use and I have a fixpack.

Do you have ToB? If you do, you first need the ToB Official Patch and then you instal the ToB Fixpack. If you don't have ToB, then install the SoA Official Patch first, and then install the SoA Fixpack. And Ease of Use is a mod, not a patch.

Well i have a problem also my char is a swashbuckler but when i kill mae var renal doesnt give me the short sword of backstabbing he only gives me the guild i want the short swoed but for some reason he doenst give it to me he gives me the money can you tell me why is there something i should know i am really confused (i dont like to warp in weapons) i try to play it as straight as possible

That's the result of installing Improved Mae'Var from the tactics mod if memory serves

actually it makes no sense a thief would be more likely to use it than a nonthief and a thief would want the guild i dont understand the instructions you just told me could you make it simpler on how to get the short sword from renal

simple version - thief no get sword, thief get stronghold

gimli--if you don't have any MODs installed, you're getting upset over nothing: Oh, darn, you missed out on a +3 enchanted Short Sword that does nothing special at all. Oh, boo hoo.

It's when you do have MODs installed that things get interesting: The two MODs relevant to this matter are GBlucher's Improved Thief Stronghold (not part of Tactics) and aVENGER's Rogue Rebalancing MOD.

Improved Thief Stronghold keeps the existing setup of "Sword or Stronghold," but once you have the Stronghold there are a couple of additional quests, which land you with some nice weapons, much better than a basic Short Sword+3.

Rogue Rebalancing changes the Short Sword of Backstabbing so that it has some nice additional rogueish properties--but only in the hands of a Thief. It can be obtained in several ways: SPOILERS

2) Party (PC of any class) kills Renal Bloodscalp, provided Renal has not given the Sword to you already
3) Party siding with Bodhi kills Aran Linvail
4) Party on the way to Bodhi's in Chap. 6 sees Aran first, and sweet-talks him into giving them the blade
