Breach doesn't work ? are you certain ? I've always just breached away his PfMW if I'm not mistaken. Same with just about any and all other liches, really

Really, I didn't know that... I could have sworn trying dispel magic on the Lich in the trapped sould machine and it didn't work saying something like "spell ineffective". Hmmm I'll have to try, you learn something new each day! [img]smile.gif[/img] Maybe it didn't work because I was too low a level, I don't know. Does it remove mantle?

Well it's funny you say that, because I'm sure I used to when I first started playing. Then again, I really didn't pay enough attention to the game information window back then to know if it worked or not.
But they definitely are immune to level 1-5 and breach is an offensive spell so I'll almost put money on it not working [img]smile.gif[/img] Spellstrike all the way as far as i'm concerned

Going out on a limb here, but no, i don't think so. Mantle is a combat protection IIRC and not a spell effect, so i'm fairly sure that dispel magic will leave it alone...

IIRC the Lich in the crocked crane casts Mantle so Draygon still won't be able to touch him even if he uses dispel magic, although mantle does have a short duration. Once the Mantle runs out I think he then casts protection from magic weapons. Does dispel magic dispel that?

As far as I know, Dispel Magic will dispel everything but Spell Trap, thus including Mantle and all other anti-weapon protection spells. If you got the "spell ineffective" message it was most likely due to the lich having SI: Abjuration active.

EDIT - tried it without all my kit on (even thought i didn't get a spell ineffective message) and it DOES get rid of both mantle and PfMW

Yeah, that jives with what I have experienced as well--a high level dispel magic is a tactical bomb. also something to consider is that mantle is immunity to +2 weapons and lower enchantment. +3 weapons can be found within reasonability (just a question of who can use it, I suppose).

Also, if you are having trouble with liches and have ToB installed...

the second level of Watcher's Keep has the wand of spell striking with Breach and Pierce Magic charges that ignore "immune to spell levels X" considerations.
