body of charcter in backpack

[new to BG II]

in my group, valgyar got petrified...and i cast a flesh to stone spell on him but he cant carry as much as he usually does and i still have an object in his backpack that says "body of valgyar"

please explain.

Right lets start from the beginning. When a character gives you anything or drops anything, it is usually in their inventory so that when they are killed, they drop it and thus you can pick it up. Now, in the case of Valygar, if you choose to

Kill him and use him to enter the sphere, you can pick up his body. This is classed as an "item" probably because it would be too much hassle to dimension door something in. And so, if you understand what im trying to say, the game counts it as an item and, since you have Valygar in your Party, he is carrying his body because he has not yet dropped it as an item.

This seems to be happening at an incorrect time however and I can only offer you 2 solutions that I can think of right now:

1) Patching- Are you fully patched?
2) You have not completed the Planar sphere.

Number2) May hava activated the body because there is probably a trigger in the game somewhere which says something like:

When Valygar comes into area (or alive) Create object {valygar body} in his inventory.

When you cast stone to flesh, it may have thought he had come alive again and hence created the body.

This trigger probably becomes inactive if you have :

1) Completed the Planar Sphere
or
2) Invite Valygar into the party (because he doesnt have it when you talk to him)

You could try number 2) and just kick him out, tell him to wait there, then re invite him.

The game people probably expected people to go do the Planar quest straight after they found Valygar and so did not consider this
"Flesh-->Stone
Stone-->Flesh "

actually...something fun to do is in the house...use flesh to stone on him b4 he joins ur party...then turn him back...if he goes hostile just cheat him into your party....that way you get his body and him in your party lmao....course u have to cheat to do it...

You know with that bug you could get the best of both worlds.

Use his body to open the sphere *AND* hand over Valygar to Tolgerias. Hell... if it's really buggy, you could probably talk to Tolgerias a second time if you're quick and get double exp for a dead Valygar.

I believe SixOfSpades mentioned this bug in his post about his evil char... Or perhaps it was him explaining how to get an obscene number of Rings of the Ram... I forget the name of the thread.. But I distinctly remember someone mentioning condemning Valygar to "the burden of carrying his own body".
