Ok, so my IE11 has turned up a fairly odd issue yesterday.
Out of nowhere I can't add anything to my favorites. I open the favorites click on "Add to Favorites" and where normally a dialogue box to edit the link name and such would appear, nothing happens. Can't figure out what the issue is, or how to fix it. Any ideas?

I've had Firefox recommended already, thanks.
![]() And taking advantage of the free Win10 upgrade isn't off the table either. But I'd like to exhaust my options for repairing the issue before I jump ship.

This issue looks similar to yours, Firestormalpha. I can't vouch for the solution, not having run into this problem myself, but the information seemed to be worth passing along.
Good luck resolving this.

At the top inside of IE11, click on 'Tools', then 'Internet Options', and then the tab on the far right named 'advanced', and at the bottom, you will see RESET. (This will reset ALL IE11 settings to default. (and delete all cookies and clean up everything. It will warn you what its doing).
But this should fix it. (remember to set your security back to med-high or however you had it, if you had a custom setting.) same for cookie settings. (this reset also checks for messed up registry entries, and resets them.) Good luck! and let me know if this works! |

I tried resetting IE's settings, didn't fix the issue. My best guess right now, is something in the registry. One of the links above even tells me where to find the favorites registry entries. They said that fixing those registry entries solved their problem. The problem is, they don't say exactly how the entries needed to be fixed, or what they ought to be; so I don't know if mine are wrong, or what they SHOULD look like if they are correct.
At any rate, I've put in for the Win10 upgrade, and hopefully this will write the issue out with an OS overhaul.

Be warned, in Windows 10, they just found out that ANY Game that uses SafeDisc Or Securom DRM or other type of copy protection like it, where it writes a undeletable hash of serial to the drive, will NOT work, and you can't play the game. Here's the story: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015...c-securom-drm/
Yet another reason I'm waiting till their first service pack. ![]() ***** BTW, with your Internet Explorer 11 issue. have you tried the 'Internet Explorer (without add-ons) and loading it? its in Accessories/system tools/and run Internet explorer (with no add-ons). Run it, and if it works, turn off some of the unknown addons.. (go to add ons and 'show all'. turn off any that don't say Microsoft. and maybe keep flash. but turn it OFF for the first try. close it out, then run the normal IE exe... if it works, that could be the issue. IF it doesn't work, you may have a virus, boot into safe mode, and to do this, click Start, type 'Command Prompt' or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. Then At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow -------------- Note Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished. After the process is finished, you may receive one of the following messages: •Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. This means that you do not have any missing or corrupted system files. •Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. To view the detail information about the system file scan and restoration, go to How to view details of the System File Checker process. •Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Here is a visual aide for ya. It fixed many issue I've had over the years. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833 Also, do you have an up-to-date virus scanner? if not, you need one. and a malware scanner--the BEST and most popular one (free) is Malwarebytes. go download it here: the free version. and run a full scan. if it detects stuff, it'll clean it up. (and let me know what it discovered). via posting a log maybe). (Malwarebytes free): https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/ And last... if none of this works, try what Cyril said. it's on this URL. your favorites dir may be deleted or renamed? or you are logged in under a new username? anywho--check this out too: http://www.brighthub.com/computing/w...les/31564.aspx In any event, Let me know!! wanna get you up and running. |

I'm currently running a fully updated Kaspersky Antivirus
Running the verification scan right now. Regarding the link on Cyril's post, I've looked into it, and it's a possibility. I've even looked at the entries in the registry. The issue I run into is not knowing what the entry ought to be, and therefore, I have no way of knowing if it needs correcting. At anyrate, it apparently has found corrupted files and made corrections to them. Not sure what corrupted files were fixed, but they didn't fix the adding favorites issue.

damn.. the changes won't take effect until you reboot. I'm sure you did already..
![]() Yeah, my 2TB hard drive just began getting back blocks/sectors, I have 7 so far. still running my PC (not the server) on the HD, and bought a new WD RED NAS Pro drive. It's an enterprise drive, which is for 24/7 use, 1.2mil hrs uptime. Nice! ![]() Just sucks.. the bad 2TB drive was split into 4 partitions... so once I format the new drive, I'll copy everything over (gonna partition the new one the same way)-- and all should be ok. At least Windows 7 Pro will be a fresh install! Everything should be faster a bit.. still, once its installed, and drivers are in, I gotta tweak tons of security settings stronger, turn off services I don't need, etc... last time I installed this OS was the end of 2012! So its about time. (I used to reinstall OS'es every few months when I was younger). lol... I also will be installing a new heatsink for the same PC. its a massive heatsink and sideways 120 fan at 2000rpm (up to). should bring temps to 26-29C. Which will be nice! |
