I'm with JrK. Looks like utter garbage - an insult to the originals.

Well, i got the game on the 28th and so far i really like it. There are only a few annoyances i can think of.

Game is HUGE and the local map on the pipboy is entirely inadequate. Because the local map sucks it can be very hard to find what your looking for and very easy to get lost.

Repair system is icky too - i apparently need to have the same items in order to repair them, which is very annoying since a lot of the time people arent carrying combat shotguns but my gun really needs to be fixed.

World map is good except for the fact that you cant fast travel to new places on it - you have to walk, which can be a real pain when there are cities in the way that have many impassable areas.

Does anyone know where to find more schematics for things you can create yourself with your workbench? would be nice if I could theorize or puzzle things out with the workbench, but it seems i must buy recipes to use.

Are you playing it on the PC or console? The local map is working ok for me. It's not the most detailed map ever but it shows you the limit of the play area and it shows you exit/entrances. You could be losing details if you're playing on a console without HD.

Yeah apparently when you do the repairs yourself you must have two of the item so you can salvage one for pieces. I use the traders myself because they don't need a double and it's relatively cheap.

It can be frustrating at times when an npc tells you of a point of interest and you can't find a direct way to it, but don't you think it would be unrealistic if you could basically teleport to a location half the way across the map in an area you have never been to just because someone told you it was in that general area? It make sense to me that you would have to scout out the way first.

Most are from random encounter merchants or are quest rewards. You can get one for a fire sword by peacefully completing the Blood Ties quest which is started in Megaton. There's also a couple hidden in power stations so investigate those when you come across them.

Well, i finally managed to get to the endgame, and now i need to know the project purity code to type in; i found online that supposedly 216 is it but it doesnt work, i just end up getting blown up (or is the screen supposed to go to white and skip to the ending scenes at the end?)

*edit* nevermind i just wasnt standing close enough to the console for the button to actually be pushed.

I am in the first part, just got the game today. The crater was actually there before the bomb fell according to lore. It just didnt explode but the settlers there hid there during the war to survive.

I never played the original Fallout, but I did go thru' Fallout 2 twice. I've just installed and played Fallout 3 for the last couple of hours. Imo, it's looking good so far.

Okay, I have just played this game since last friday (thats roughly 4 days). Here is my opinion having played and loved fallout 1 and 2.

1.) I was annoyed how the controls worked until I adapted to it
2.) I thought I only had 1 companion DogMeat (apparently I was wrong)
3.) Maps are huge and a pain to travel back and forth (until you can use your pipboy like the old fallout and travel places instantly
4.) Local Mapping is terrible
5.) Graphics are really good and AI is decent (such as they hide when they reload), and the targeting (VAT) is actually helpful that i use it all the time. Its not only for show, they give you better critical hits
6.) Junk now actually has its uses
7.) Food and Water also has its uses (two things I found out was Vitals and HP are 2 seperate things)
8.) There is adult language but adult content has been diminish (biggest gripe here)
9.) Jokes are pretty rare in this game
10.) Sex appeal and content are nonexistent (another gripe)
11.) There doesnt seem to include any extra jobs (like merchant guard or pimp) compared to old fallouts
12.) Money is scarce and so is weight. Best thing here though is that the items you leave behind they will be still there when you come back, plus so are the dead bodies!
13.) Just one picture of the game to show you the graphics. I dont know how to do frontal shots yet.

Some screenies from my game. The first one is when I first emerged from the Vault, the 2nd in Megaton.

Does it still have a 1950:s retro-future bent to it?

Is Dogmeat there?

I might check it out if it'll run on my laptop. It's not like the originals, but then again, they wont make games like those again.

BTW, I currently play FO II with the Restoration Project 1.2. I reccomend it if you ever want to replay the game again.
