He and the others should talk to their union rep. Even if they can't get re-instated, maybe they can at least get a big settlement. Or, maybe that's what they did and they chose early retirement.

They sure were abused before getting the boot - first, they lose their whole point (illusionists); then, they get turned into bards (urgh?!)... and now they are gone.

Hopefully they get to carouse with nymphs and such where ever they were sent...

Or, maybe they always hated being PCs and their Master Illusionists and Elders got together to formulate a plan that would take them out of the spotlight and back to their true place of power behind the scenes. (Where they frollick with nymphs and such. )

He is pretty darn awesome. And your vampire is pretty sweet, too.

You guys always lose me when you start discussing the merits and demerits of the various letter editions of the AD&D rules. I hadn't purchased any of the newer edition manuals since the 1980's when I was in to the pen and paper thing.

I've picked up a few newer manuals since then second hand or online for some insights or ideas for whatever CRPG I'm working on but not the newer DM or Player's manuals which only seem to me to have lost the spirit, simplicity and flavor of the original game when it was Gygax's baby. Actually I collect the original stuff that Gygax first published as I think they are the coolest AD&D modules, art, rules etc.

We feel pretty much the same way, though a a player of modern CRPGs, I've probably played using the 3.xe rules as much as I have with first or second edition now. I don't mind it so much any more, but it's not what I think of as AD&D. It's like when Parker Bros updated Monopoly to use credit cards instead of cash - same name, but the flavor of the game is different.

I knew there was a reason I liked you guys and the FRUA/DC community so much.

Any opinions about the D20 rulesets? I haven't really studied the system much but I was interested because of the big post-apocalyptic campaign setting manual they have.

Mmm - I think that they are a bit too complex (much like a video game on paper) with the various feat/prestige class progressions and such...

The allowing of class changes at will for all races also seems a bit weird for me - after all, learning to do just one thing really well is hard enough, and humans need some reason that they are at the top of the world.

I also don't like the new unified XP tables - after all, some things are harder to learn than others (I liked how in the old days, some things were easier at one point and harder at another); the new tables are also too low (as in you need too little to advance - also reeks to me of video games).
