Is there something in windows that can scan hardware? My wife's PC still won't connect to the internet. I have Win XP Pro.
I could also download something from mine and run it on hers.

There's a few ways, I can't check because I'm on a mac at the moment
![]() Run the command 'DxDiag' in your run box off the start menu, that'll give you quite a few details. Also, go to accessories on your start menu, system tools and there should be something called 'System Hardware' knocking about. That'll give you a lot of info on your system too.

Thanks, I'll try the Dx thing. The other seems to be "system information". Have it open on my PC now. I'll try it on hers as well....
Edit: There's a lot of stuff in there! It will take some to go through it all.

I looked at those things, but couldn't find anything obvious. Are there any programs that will diagnose my hardware? I can download it from my PC, put it on thumb drive and run it on hers.

Is the trouble only that she can't connect to the internet or are their other issues? Is she connected to a different router?

I'm assuming that your PC connects from the same place, so its not an ISP issue.
Check all connections. Try all your cabling on hers. If its wireless, make sure that her computer has the modems encyption key if it has one (wont detect signal otherwise). And im spent.

I don't know if you tried this yet but sometimes the router and modem need to be reset. It happens to me on occasion with my wired router. Unplug the power from both for 5 seconds and then re-plug. If your router and modem need resetting this is the way to do it.

I tried that with the Aliant support guy on the phone. It till wouldn't explain why my works and hers doesn't. I usually do that first now anyway.
