Ahum, that amulet is just a trick employed by the designers to give Edwin the spells he deserves. "Why, he's a Conjurer, so he needs just 1 extra spell per level, not three?!" Yes, he is a conjurer, which nets him +1 spell per level. Also, he's a Red Wizard which means he is super specialized in his school, gaining more spells. I guess the designers could not hardcode it or something like that, so they made an amulet.

I don't think Edwin is that powerful in the beginning. Like most mages, he's not that incredible in early levels, even with the extra spells (he has almost zero else to add). In fact, I have an early game with him right now and only use him about 50% or so of the time, otherwise my tanks are in there fighting.

However, as the game progresses, I'm sure he will be the most powerful member of the squad.

Depends how you use him, get a mage with the right spells or stats and you could end up using him 100% of the time.

Edit: Spelling

When Edwin starts using the PRATI tactic and the Spell Trap Endless Spells tactic... Korgan will be begging him to let him have a nibble at the action.

"Stop stopping time! I want me axe to taste blood! *sobs*"

Imoen can do the same... but Edwin has vastly superior firepower potential, as in potential hundreds more damage.

Personally, I don't like to use the Spell Trap endless spells tactic. Too much work and feels like cheating to me (but, if others use it and enjoy it, that's all the game is really about -- enjoying it. so please don't think I'm judging).

At any rate, once Edwin can use that tactic, then even if he doesn't, Korgan will still be begging for action.
