Falling on Floor Laughing Going for it! Living with a roll

Anybody ever just take the first roll of the dice and live with it? If so, how did it turn out?

Nope, because it usually means my mage can't cast many spells due to having the intelligence of a sea slug. Which isn't realistic. if you were that stupid, you wouldn't be able to become a mage anyway.

That's the problem with rolling your stats after picking your class. In P&P you choose your race, roll your stats, and then pick the class best suited to them. That way you don't risk deciding to become a mage and then finding out that you can't cast simple cantrips. Or deciding to be a Barbarian and then realizing that you can't pick up a two-handed sword. Or choosing to be a Bard when you're harsh-tongued and tone deaf.

No, never. I just ctrl+8 it and then start. How do I justify cheating? If I re rolled many times eventually I could get all 18's anyway, so I just skip all the time that I would have wasted, and go straight to all 18s

in a combination of your and six's approaches i've just started myself a halfling generic archer and rolled 'til i got 19 DEX (it actually didn't take very long even with missing a couple of 19s with the quick rerolling) and left everything else alone - i think he's got 14 STR and 11 CON

Righteous. Sounds like a good, normal, start.

Hmmm here's a challenging idea. 100% natural roll. keep the first roll no matter what, and no reload. If you die, you die.

I'm sure someone's thought of it already, but it just now occurred to me.

'no reloads' is an established game-within-the-game thing for bg

there are threads on ironworks about people's experiences

i get the impression that it makes protective magic way more important

imagine the tension towards the end of the game
