Ha ha... That last book should help a lot, then
![]() I also like to do webpages by text editor (I hurl snot at silly programs like Microsoft FrontPage, etc. that insert lots of unneeded tags and such in generated HTML). My wife is better than me at Excel, though (she always reformats any spreadsheet I do in that...). I like to dabble in strange, esoteric knowledge, too (like old martial arts manuals...) ![]()

Spells of Fury is pretty interesting, but I always think that it must be the other book that had all the insight.
![]() For web pages, my wife loves Dreamweaver. Blah. It makes such ugly code. She doesn't really care though. Excel, or to be more general, spreadsheets are a wonderful thing. I've been toying around with creating the missing editors for DC. I've actually finished the design part for some, and just have the coding to do (using VB). But, recently I needed to do some stuff in Excel (which I use, but also mean as a generic term as I also regularly use the OpenOffice.org spreadsheet program) when I realized that I might actually be able to do the editors in Excel. I would probably need to use calls to Access (the database) and to Word (the text editor), but those are easy enough to do. The editors would be kind of like complicated mail merge files. ![]() |

Ah - Dreamweaver is the other software product I fling snot at...
![]() Are you making Excel (OpenOffice) macros to act as the DC editors? Or just using spreadsheets as a base from which programs can work from? If you are doing the latter, why not use CSV files instead?

I was going to do the former. Everything would be done in Excel with macros (which are actually in VB
![]() ![]() What do you mean by using CSV files? I am not familiar with CSV. I do know CVS which is a file repository system as in the one used at SourceForge, but I'm sure that you don't mean that... As to other interests of, shall we say, a more esoteric nature, I am quite steeped in the study of conspiracy theorists and their theories. I'm not into conspiracy theories persay, it is more like being a journalist reporting on the people interested in those theories, why they believe them, etc. ![]() ![]() |

Ah - well, if you are doing macros, I guess CSV files are irrelevant (they are just the simplest spreadsheet files (you can make them in notepad by just having commas in between each cell) - if you were making a separate program, they are pretty easy to handle since they are so easy to make).
Conspiracy theories, eh? ![]() ![]()

Okay, now CSV is ringing a bell - comma separated v___. Well, I almost remembered the whole thing.

Yeah, I can't remember what "V" stands for, either
![]() Hmm - that is sort of the response I get from my wife, too, yes ![]()

It's kinda funny, 'cause if I were to react the same way to something she was saying, I would not hear the end of it for a while.
![]() As to the esoteric, I didn't mention it earlier, but it seems kind of obvious now, I make maille. ![]() |

Yeah, that's usually the way it works (we listen to them, but they don't listen to us
![]() Maille - you mentioned that before, yes... ![]()
