As I recall, I was able to select shadowdancer levels for my elven rogue characters even though I had not chosen dodge or mobility; I tried to create a local test build but could not duplicate my EfU builds. I can only postulate that either I acquired the requisite feats from magical items or the EfU rules differ from the NWN single player rules-- if the former, what happens if I stop using the item(s) in question? Could this be why shadowdancer builds are now rejected as NPCs?

Eureka! I have answered my own question, here's what I did...
1. Create a new character (rogue). 2. Run him up enough levels to have Hide 10, Move 8, Tumble 5. 3. Give him Durnan's Boots. 4. Voila! Take 1 level Shadowdancer. 5. Be mean, take away Durnan's boots. 6. Log out. At this point the character cannot be used, trying to log on yields: Invalid character - player login refused. Character class is non player class. |

I think feats granted from items do not count for prestige or any class requirements for that matter. So by removing the boots you loose the feats and then loose the class requirements. Long and short of it... you need to include the feats in the build, don't rely on the items.

Absolutely.
There are items which give Whirlwind Attack. Equip one and then forget to take it as a personal feat when going for Weaponmaster and you have a failed build. |

In is logical (after a fashion), however the current behavior is bad, ranking just above "crash the game". More than a few players choose feats and classes without memorizing all the requirements; I consider this a bug as it is all too easy for players to unwittingly create unusable characters. Do Bioware have bug reporting?

I don't think Bio ware has a bug reporting. The best way is to use the build calculator by Kamiryn. It is the best way I've found to prebuild characters so you know when an where to take fest and skills. He also has one for NWN2.
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view...l&id=856#Files Also there is a build search engine that seraphs all the epic builds posted on Bioware which I use to get some basic ideas and flesh them out as I want. http://web1.vattnet.com/staffan/nwn1...arch/index.php Hope these help!

I'm aware of the build calculator, but I've been using NWN to avoid installing M$ Office with a Win32 emulator solely for this purpose. If it worked in Open Office I would use it; of course either method works and anyone carefully planning characters is far less likely to to be bitten by this bug.
EDIT: Actually it does seem to work in Open Office ![]() Last edited by garrison; 03-07-2008 at 03:59 PM. Reason: new information |

If you let Z know what happened, he may consent to turn off Enforce Legal Characters for you long enough to reequip the boots. I had something similar happen one time before. Don't be overly surprised if at some point ILR gets turned on, it gets checked every once in a while too.
