I understood everything the same way as Manikus described. I also never made the experience that an NPC added in a combat event attacked party members when "friendly" was checked for that NPC.

What I would like to ask is if there is the possibility that not pre-generated NPCs that join the party during the game may attack the party members during combat and if, why. Could it be that the alignment is important?

If an NPC joins the party and is of an opposite alignment, i.e. the NPC is good and the party is evil, they may attack at least in AD&D, but I don't know how CocoaSpud coded it. I only tried twice testing this way and the NPC did not attack the party.

I had a look through the code and the NPC should only attack the party if they themselves are attacked first.

Yeah, I thought of alignment too, but as far as I can tell it doesn't matter.
Checking the "Pre Gen" box seems to have fixed everything on mine.... *shrugs*
Then again, I -did- have a Paladin with a modified Charisma of 20 in the party! :\
But I did try the combat without her and it worked. The NPC did not attack the party and the combat ended once the enemies were defeated....

If the character is pre-generated, you should be able to control him/her in combat if he/she is a party member (paladin or not...). It may however be the case that such characters also show different characteristics when added in a combat event...

I am still sure that a non pre-gen NPC attacked my party although I did not do any harm to him before... But I am not sure if it was a bug in an older version, so may be this has already been fixed and I forgot it...

I've done quite a bit more testing, and what LB has said rings true (30+ combats). If 'is friendly' is checked, the only way an NPC will attack the party is if you attack her first. Alignment and pre-gen are not factors.

Character control of NPCs or monster marked as 'is friendly' depends on the paladin being in the party even if there are other characters with high charisma. Now, if you make an NPC pre-gen and add them at party creation, that's a completely different story.

Also, if you have NPCs that you "party" with then they gain experience and/or weapons. If you load them into the combat engine I believe they come in as they are set up, not with any changes; but I have to check this out to know for sure

Exactly how it happened with me....

Very Angry Re: NPC Creation in DC

It's still doing it. The NPC is still attacking the party. Clicking the pre gen box solves it, but that of course puts him selectable right off in the training hall before the adventure even begins, and I don't want to do that.
i tried everything and i can't solve it. Is it enough of his class? He's a Thief. A Dwarf Thief to be precise. Is it because I targetted him? (I didn't attack him, just put the cursor on him.) I can't dump the character, he's a major plot device.
If it is a bug, tell me where to report it, and I will.
In the meantime, anybody got any suggestions?

Please post your error logs.

I'm not quite clear if the NPC is already in your party before combat or not...
If not, you are checking the 'is friendly' box when adding them to the combat, aren't you?
