Ok, call me old fashion. despite how advance handphone business is in my area. I'm still using the good old Nokia 2100, original casing some more. It has the basic function of calling and receiving call (duh!) and also sending and receiving sms. What more do I need?
And the good things is, I don't have to pay a single cent of anything. I can use the phone as much as possible without worrying a hefty bill. It's nice when someone else is paying your bill for you. ![]() |

I've got a Treo 755P... the Smartphone
![]() My thoughts... you can't go wrong (really!) with just getting an intro-level phone. Look in the Sunday paper for whoever's offering a free phone for a two-year signup and take it. Ask about plans, though. There's generally a *HUGE* penalty for going over your minutes, and minimal impact for going under them. Not everyone rolls them over every month, but you may not need that. My wife's phone originally was just 25 minutes a month... emergencies only, basically. That was around $15/month, IIRC. Just did a quick Google... www.letstalk.com offers a plan comparison site that's based on your ZIP code. Take a look there to see what the options are, and remember... the plan is what continues from month to month. The phone cost is a one-time thing...

I'm in the same boat as Vask. I can do without yet another monthly bill to score late penalties for, so i go with pre-paid. The call charges are quite steep, but SMS is cheap as chips. Just remember, get them to call you.

I have a Nokia 2118, very robust in all its $90 cheapness. NZ$10 for 500 txts a month.. and if I dont use it, I don't have to pay anything.
Unless I throw it away through its obsolescence it will last a very long time, and will probably outlive myself. |
