Decisions, decisions, yes, some people will have a drink cup of ice or not, but can you say with 100% certainty that the cup of ice would NOT be a deciding factor whatever for SOME people? In all honesty, no. No more than I can say that the cup would be the deciding factor for everyone. The probability of drinking while driving is a variable in this equation, and the cup is merely + a given value towards that probability. No one's saying it's the cups fault, just that it's one more temptation for someone who might have otherwise decided to wait til they got home.

More than a temptation. They're selling the cups, remember. Which means that a person has already decided they're gonna have a drink before they buy it. If they were handing 'em out for free with every purchase THEN it'd be a temptation. (And then there'd be no doubt about culpability. Guilty.)

For what it's worth, cracking one on the way home from the bottle shop is as harmless as drinking water, IMO. *shrugs*

Firestormalpha- You're correct, in that it WOULD be the "factor" that would give SOME people the idea to mix a cocktail right in the parking lot. That doesn't prevent them from making other arrangements for cups & ice though. The fact is, it's THEIR decision, regardless of the location of cups & ice.

Sever- I tend to agree with you on cracking one on the way home (unless you have a really long drive ). The vast majority of folks know their limits & are reasonably intelligent. I disagree with any culpability on the store's behalf, even if they have mixed drinks for free at the door on the way out. It is YOUR decision to take a sip...
Now, if they tied you down when you walked into the store, and FORCED you at gunpoint to take a drink...well that's a different story.
It's called PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY.

[sarcasm]you're absolutely right LM, we should stop going after drug dealers and just arrest all the users.[/sarcasm]

If you're so determined about it, why don't you go to Atlanta, and start a petition to have the decisions against the liquor store selling cups of ice reversed?

OK, I'm done with this. We'll have to agree to disagree.
Don't EVEN try to compare this to drugs & drug dealers. That's not even a competent comparison.
Don't even answer this post. Apparently you think personally accountability is irrelevant. Let's blame the steering wheel and not the driver who turned it.

Assuming you're done with this, you'll not likely be checking in again, so whether I respond to your response is irrelevent.

I never said accountability of the individual doesn't count. It is; however, NOT the sole factor, and external factors are involved. To say that two things that are clearly related are utterly unrelated, shows a closed mind, unwilling to accept any ideals that are not their own. Attacking my competency is quite rude and has no place in a discussion between presumably adult persons.
