Congrats on the shopping being done, Albromor... and bummer on the ankle

Hopefully you'll get a new game that can keep you occupied while you're laid up...

Peace, all.

Happy Friday everyone! I'm happy that I have a nice long weekend ahead of me (will go back to work on Wednesday) and no travelling for Christmas, yay! May even leave work eary today too if it stays slow like it is. Boy am I glad I have all my shopping done. Went to the bookstore yesterday, just for myself, and it was packed! It's going to be crazy in stores this weekend (and raining), so glad I won't be in the midst of the madness! Parking spaces are hard to come by, and all the good stuff has already been bought so you find yourself basically sifting through the dregs LOL (been there many years LOL).

So all is well. All I have to do now is hit the grocery store sometime this weekend, want to make my homemade mac and cheese. I also feel like my chili, but I guess chili isn't really Christmassy is it LOL? Ah well, maybe next weekend for New Years!

Merry Chrissy all. After three weeks at my new job in Perth, i've located a nice little unit not far from the ocean. Small and partly furnished with beds and wardrobes so i'll only have to do one trip for the TV, stereo, computer and personal stuff. If i'm really lucky, i can cram it all into my car and not have to worry about hiring a trailer.

There's lots of interesting threads on IW at the moment but i'm a little busy to read them all. Suffice to say, it's christmas, and i'll have plenty of time over the next few days to post.

How's the cat, Johnny? It was at about this time last year that i had something similar happen. I'll tell ya how it ended when i get back.

How's the job, Wellard? It sounds like a worrying time to be a Qantas employee. Such things usually lead to staff cutbacks. Sorry to hear about your shares dropping and stuff. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Sever

Great to hear you got a job, I had noticed you not posting recently. So spill the beans on what your job is.

Sold my shares at $5.30 so not bad. Yep things are looking gloomy if the takeover goes ahead, the only way to make enough returns quickly is to reduce maintenance to the minimum rather than the premium standard Qantas is rightly famous for. And I am sure that my shift allowances for working 24/7 including Christmas day will be cut and I will enjoy the benefits of Howard’s new anti worker legislation. Oh Joy

Currently also "enjoying" Howard's said benefits. No holiday or sick leave and my employers have the right to sack me, without notice, when my work is done. As it turns out, myself and the only other boily in the shop are churning through our work at a quicker rate than the sparkies and fitters (no surprise ) so i may be looking for work sooner than i had anticipated. My job? The company buys used mobile plants (mining dumptrucks) and strips them, modifies them and sells them to other mining companies. It's NOT what i had in mind when i signed up. Any fool can weld a few bolts to a chassis and, apart from crack repairs, that's basicly what my job involves. Still, the weekly tax i'm paying equates to what i was earning after tax in my previous job so that gives you an idea of where the pay's at. I've also been offered (whether i want it or not) positions at various mine sites through the people that i work with so when the work does run out, i'm not short of options. Generally, all is pretty right with my life at the moment. No complaints from me.

Didn’t know you where working at the gold mines Hive. Are you an onsite IT worker? Don’t suppose there are any jobs going for aircraft engineers are there? experienced in hydraulics, Pneumatics, Fuel systems and allround quality engineering. Things are looking very gloomy for the new year at Qantas

Wasn't feeling the Christmas mood lately (it seems the old I get, the longer it takes me to clock into that festive feeling) but when I spied The Muppets Christmas Carol on TV this afternoon, my spirits were lifted.

Heya Hive. Put in a good word for me with your boss (i've recently learned that that's how one gets a job in mining) and who knows? I may be keen to travel over there for a stint. Koolyanobbing is my next port of call though.
