sewers below temple district

While searching the sewers below the temple district I found a secret door in the northern east corner, but it is locked and cant be opened with magic. I assumed that it would open when i triggered something later on in that quest, but I never found a key, switch or whatever.

How is it opened??

The key that opens it wont be found anywhere near the sewers. Take a stroll outside Athkatla and you'll probably run into it sooner or later.

The door may be opened by sewers key what is not located in the sewers under the temple district.

Seriously though, it's not a very good idea to pin-point or spoil people who didn't specifically ask for it (their loss if they do).

This is all very interesting, because i have completed all of the quests in chapter 2, been through the underdark and resurfaced. Maybe i have the key stashed with all the stuff I don't carry around with me.

Why was the key stored there?

After taking my arsenal of keys (on the biggest keyring in Amn) down to the sewers, the door is still locked.
I'm off to the Windspear Hills to visit memory lane and upturn every rock looking for this damnable key...

This is where the pieces of King Strohm III mask is put together in the maze.

What does the mask do? I never worked that out.
