But we haven't got cars that run off electricity yet, and the ozone layer only heals its self very slowly.

Actually there are cars that runs on electricity, but I donīt think they are that fast and need to be "re-fueled" every third mile or so.

BTW cars are very useful if you need a car to get to work and so on but itīs not always practical if you live downtown, impossible to find a parking spot.

Cars- the modern horse.

Cars don't pollute, the car factories do. Emissions controls on cars have advanced to the point where negiligible emissions are produced after the first couple of minutes of warmup.

On the last drive clean test, my car got 0 NO /0 HC /0.01% CO

Fuel cells are also fast arriving on the scene, NGK projects 50,000 fuel cell cars on the road in NA before 2005.

edit> Now, if we could only get the car manufacturers to obey the pollution laws when making cars.

Yes we do, GM and Toyota have been selling electric cars in California for years. They're expensive and short ranged but are ideal for the short range driving most urban commuters do.

The biggest problems they have are a) the expense of buying or replacing the battery pack which only lasts about 5 years or so, and b) the limited range (100-150 km or so on a charge).

actually i know there are already electric cars available in europe... and another thing is that there is already a car , prototype i think, that will have several sources of fuel namely: gas, electricity (battery included here), water, and light. i already heard about it but i forgot who is making it.

With you all the way Dragonshadow! Although I do think it's much easier to say this coming from europe (although public transport not so hot in UK compared to continental europe). The US seems far more auto oriented (and therefore oil oriented?).

The amount of cars in the UK sucks. You are always in danger of getting killed. I was almost knocked down, and one of my friends was.
People get killed by cars.
Down with cars.
