Personally i think Elminster is way overkill

Nah both Raistlin and Elminster would have contingencies. Entreri dont stand a chance..

My vote is to Raistlin simply cause I dont like Elminster

ack, but you do know that the person has to be seen for them to fire, dont you? And I think that Entreri can stay hidden... long enough to kill them with one fatal slice.

Elminster would win in a mage duel versus Raistlin. While Raistlin was the most powerful mage ever in Dragon Lance, the magic level in Dragon Lance is significantly lower than the magic level in Forgotten Realms, even after the Gods in the Forgotten Realms, specifically Mystra, took away most of the powerful magics from mortals. Elminster represents the high end of mages in the Forgotten Realms, and has had over one thousand years of practice in dealing with other mages, while Raistlin could claim only a fraction of that time and against much weaker mages to boot.

Elminster has VERY powerful psionics, more powerful than that of a mind flayer (given to him by Ed Greenwood as a last resort in case his spells fail and he faces the possibility of dying). He would fry Entreri's mind AND body in the 0.5 seconds it took Entreri to leap from shadows. He can cast Lesser Ironguard as an innate ability provided by Mystra. In addition, Elminster also has very powerful divination spells that would find Entreri no matter where he hid (True Sight among many others). Not only that, he can wield both silver fire AND spellfire. This is also the reason why he would beat Raistin, even though Raistlin almost beat Takhisis on her home plane and has all the powers of Fistandantilus. Greenwood has engineered Elminster to be unbeatable. Entreri, since he was engineered by Salvore to be mortal, with mortail frailties, has ZERO chance.

Entreri is a legend among mortals, but Elminster's not exactly mortal. He's more at demipower status - the mightiest of Mystra's Chosen.
