Bilqis, wow, I had no idea you have four sons!
I have to agree that there are less good names for boys, I would like to have girls too. BTW Rikje, Eider is a kind of duck so I would definitely go for eiGer! Some names I have come up with (although some of them I wouldn't name my child): Naomi Melusine Selena Elizabeth Elvira Madeleine Ehlana Catharina For a boy... probably something biblical like Gabriel ( ![]() ------------------ Melusine, Archbabe of the OHF ![]() Your voice is ambrosia |

(God this thread is old, interesting though )
If I had a son, I would name him Jesus..seriously If I had a daughter I would name her either Ronja or Solstråle (sun-beam)

Boys: Theodor, Michael
Girls: Elisabeth, Annemarie That's what springs to mind... Nice names (although not exactly what you'd name your children) are Elven names from Middle-earth. As Tolkien created the language to be beautiful, a lot of ideas for nice names can be gotten... my favorite would be Aiwë - bird, or Elen - star. EDIT: And DEFINETELY not the "usual". There are tons of Florians, Fabians, Annas, Lenas, Christinas, Jans, Christians, etc. running around... I like having a slightly less common name, myself. [ 01-29-2002: Message edited by: Kaz ] |

I like Marsali Selene--which means little moon pearl--for a girl. We have too many boys already at three, so I'm not *even * going there! (and only one daughter)

quote: Yes, I'd definitely not give any child of mine one of the "usual" names either. I can't really think WHAT I'd name them, but I'd probably try to avoid anything TOO "unusual" that it'd involve them getting teased too much at school, I know how cruel kids can be... |

quote: LOL, but Kaz, apart from Theodor, the names you mentioned are all VERY common ![]() Ooh, I found a name me and my boyfriend BOTH like, btw ![]() Aurora! (= dawn/sunrise) Oh Regin I really LOVE the name Solstråle!! Wow! The 'å' is pronounced with a rounded, back, "o" right? I always liked the name Bård too. Oh and Solveigh! What does that mean? Sun-something.... I just love Nordic names I also really like very euphonic names, acquaintances of mine have two daughters named Milou Madeleine and Carlijn Quirina Carlijn is a Dutch name so it may sound strange to foreigners, but the names sound soooo melodious and they're both alliterative in Dutch as well.

quote: Yeah, the å is pronounced something like that And about Solveig, it's actually norwegan from the beginning, and probarbly means something like "lady of the house", that it is she who rules the house..

Well down here in Australia it seems that every second person's name is Jonathan or Chris. Wierd.
I'd name my daughters Hope, Grace, and some other names I could think of. I dont think I'd have more than 2 children. Of sons.. Luke, Matthew, Aaron and Lionel are nice names.. if a bit boring.

quote: Not here, or not in my age group - I've never seen an Elisabeth at my school. There's one Annemarie, and several Michaels (note: there are over one thousand students at my school). Whereas my class used to have two Tobias, two Jans, two Fabians, two Florians and THREE Christians. (One Christian and one Tobias moved away, it's more moderate now). |

Yep, guess those names are more German - Fabians and Florians are rare in Holland, but Annemarie is one of the most common names, and so is Michael. Elisabeth occurs a lot in English of course (in shortened froms as well). But it all depends where you live
