Cool, but how can Intel run hotter than Intel? I'm probably doomed for asking, but...

Well, I don't know if it was a 5200 but it was for sure a Nvidia.

Robertthebard - the FX5200 is the only 5200, you simply get different brands.

Larry - Intel chips do run hotter than AMD, and while Intel are better for encoding in general, the same can be said that AMD are better for gaming.

Sir G - as for Socket 939, you should enquire, it would be cheaper than the Intel and you can put the money towards a nice new graphics card. As a minimum go for a 6600gt (none of the FX cards, they're all past it) and preferably get a 6800gt + if you'd like to run all the new games on top graphics settings. Other than that, looks not bad.

Well, I do have an extra $400 I can spend, so I could get a better video card if I wanted to.
So I guess I'll do that, and anything else you guys suggest?

I did find this site quite useful if you're looking for something to arm yourself against the salesman with.

*sigh*

I trust the salesman, so I don't need to *arm* myself with anything.

Oh, I still read it. I just don't feel the need to 'arm' myself against the salesman, who is my friends dad, in order to get the best computer I can. Besides, I can usually tell if someone is out to make commission off me (no, I won't buy the no name brand tv and get the 4 year extended warranty).
