"the lack of a good bowlers (esp. a quality seamer) has me worried." Mind you I also thought that after Terry (Lbw)Alderman then Reid then McDermott all retired but loosing Mcgrath and SMS Warnie together next year does pose concern. No need to panic and make wholesale changes though. Caravan is gone for good though, however Lee, Tait, Bracken and stu macgill (warne mk2) will see us through for a few years yet and I doubt Punter will hand a test to another team again after winning a toss.... ![]()

Must counter Davros for posts on page 2
OK, as regards the rankings, this was just to show that we are not just "2nd or 3rd" but uncomfortably close to you, and, with the team improving the way it is, that we will inevitably overtake. The spinner thing. Ashley isnt great, I admit, but the australian position of relying on there spinner is the exception, not the rule (maybe sri lanka...) You underestimate the age problem of your side. We all know the situation the windies are in. They used to be one of the best teams in the world, but they got complacencent, and now even we thrash them. Your young players have no test experience and it will take time for them to develop it. Meanwhile we will be getting better and better. Until our team gets old that is. |

The shit is hitting the fan down under and the team haven't even crept back into the country yet!
http://www.thisislondon.com/sport/ar...PA%20Feed&ct=5 Lillee wants Warne as captain Former Australia paceman Dennis Lillee has called for Shane Warne to be installed as his nation's new captain in the wake of their Ashes defeat to England. Current skipper Ricky Ponting was criticised for some of his tactics during the 2-1 defeat which relinquished the famous urn, and Lillee now believes it is time for a change at the top. "If Australia want to regain the Ashes they would dramatically improve their chances by appointing Shane Warne as captain," Lillee told The West Australian newspaper. "They should start at the very top when assessing what went wrong in England. If we are to get this team back on the rails, the plan has to go way deeper than making a few cosmetic changes to the XI which surrendered to England. "Make no mistake, Australia were ambushed by England because way too many people right across the board were living in a comfort zone. "Cricket Australia executives, the coach, the manager, the captain and support staff must be all held accountable for this disaster. "It's going to take time to digest and analyse what went wrong but with Australia due to play a Rest of the World team at the SCG from October 14, the first priority is to appoint a captain who can lead from the front."
