I was pretty sure Free Action protected from their stun too,.. thought it did anywayz. But suddenly my cavalier and monk were both stunned in a fight with the (improved) Illithiid ... what gives ? Free Action doesnt protect and I've been lucky so far ?

Free action doesn't protect against their mind blasts, no. You've been lucky. The mind blast doesn't hinder your ability to move, it disables your brain's ability to tell your body to move.

Hmmmm? The Ring of Free Action protects you from Psionic Stun as far as I know. Not sure about the spell version, but it should too.

That's what I thought .. but it didnt this time.
Might it have something to do with the haste spell I cast afterwards ?
Not that the haste-spell had any effect .. crappy bugged free-action

Er... Free Action is supposed to be a double-edged sword. It renders you immuned to any form of speed alteration, whether it be slow or haste.

Free Action only is made to let you move freely while under the effects of any spells that attempt to tie you up or hold you down.

the 5th level Priest Spell Chaotic Commands is what you want for protection against all Illithiid improved or regular. It renders your character immune to all Charm,Maze,Domination, and sleep type spells.
and the illithiid are toast when you us this spell on your team members.
console command code # SCRL5F =Chaotic Commands Scroll
This spell doesn't last long but long enough to kill all the Illithiid if your fast enough.

Yea, I know .. but I dont have enough spell slots yet
I kinda figured the haste/free action thing was a bug since you can juggle around the ring of free action and the boots of speed also.
Depends on what order you equip them if you're running or not.

It would be an engine bug, so we have to unless Bioware/Interplay/BIS decide to fix it.
