Most of my characters are historical/legendary folks re-created for BG2.
Malthaussen was one of my longest-running pnp characters, so I sometimes use him in CRPG games. His charisma of 6, however, makes him a liability as a leader. (His name was derived from Thomas Malthus, author of the extremely depressing book "A Treatise on Population")

For hobbits... err, "halflings," I usually go with either Mojo or Frito. Yes, I am a lover of "Bored of the Rings." A friend of mine in the old 1st edition days had a high-level wizard named Goodgulf.

For dwarves, I usually go with Dworkin or Ferkin. I played D&D for a couple of years with a gentleman hight Ferkin Doyle, and thought his name was perfect for a dwarf. Dworkin seems to have an appropriately "Tolkienesque" flavor.

Elves get Tolkienesque names, also. Dandhros ("Danny") is the leader of a party I'm playing now. Miriel and Muriel and two elven ladies who have been in many a party of mine.

I genreally use Nina (Er... borrowed from Breath of Fire) for females and Ryu(Same) for males. I also use "Grend" for fighters(and adaption of Grendel, borrowed from either Beowolf or Creatures Trilogy, take your pick) and Mia (Borrowed from from Golden Sun... Hey, I name a lot of my charactors after game charactors!). I don't ever really have the time to think of original ones.

Yes! Someone else has read "Bored of the Rings!" (I sit on the floor and pick my nose/and think of dirty things.")

I've never been fond of Tolkien's names for elves or dwarves. I go with a normal-ish first name and an object last name (Suren Silverstrike) or something hippy (and Rainbow tops the list).

"This Ring and no other was made by the Elves/Who'd sell their own mother to have it themselves..."

I use Tolkeinesque names for elves and dwarves because my pnp campaign is based (very) loosly on JRR's history. Anyway, Pirengle, you said you liked unpronouncable names.

I kinda like the name

Aerk for a fighter...the name originates from the movie Willow
(MadMartigans friend)

Zantras for a sorcererer...have a portrait from WC3 I think...it rocks
(She is elven of course!!)

Sir Gareth is a Cavalier...usin a modified portrait from BG2

Juraz...Cleric

Chariss...elven thief (portrait from NWN)

...and the last slot is either open or used by one of Salvatores people...i.e.
Drizzt, Bruenor, Wulfgar, Regis or Catti-Brie...I don´t use Regis since he is bad luck...usually I get kille by a mistake or sumthin weird!
