Well I've played the game trough now and this time I killed Sarevok whit summoning skeletons to hit he before he talks to me. There was 10-15 skeletons and they made damage to Sarevok for 3-5 minutes. I dont know why Sarevok didn't attack on my skeletons, but who cares. I cast Protection against evil and haste to my paladin (with -8 AC) and rushed towards to Sarevok and finished the work. It was easy...

Please tell me how have U killed Sarevok.

I summoned a wad of skeletons and monsters, and while he was attacking them, I had my mage pepper him with magic missiles and the others pincushined him with magical arrows. It still took me three tries to kill him though. I'd always end up triggering the doom guard traps, and be cut to shreds (becuse by the time I killed all of them, Sarevok had waded through the monsters and started attacking my party. I only had a few charges left on my wand of monster summoning, and I would always use them up).

As much as I have played this game I have only fought that battle once! I used monster summoning to do it. I no longer use monster summoning, as I think it is an unbalancing capability (although having an evil necomancer or evil cleric casting Animate Dead is something I will do). I do look forward to fighting Sarevok and company without monster summoning when I finally get there with: my four specialist mage, cleric, thief-mage party; my druid and bard husband and wife team with their NPC oddballs in tow; and my evil party.

I never used summons or skelies for this fight, I just had my thief (Imoen) run up the left wall, hide in shadows and hit sarevoc with an arrow, after buffing my fighters, clerics, etc. of course., and that usually led him after her, w/o his cronies, he's much easier to take down with only 1 mage backing him up, rather than him 2 mages tazok, and whoever else he has with him.

I don't know how anyone can do this fight with summoned creatures. They're useless. They either all get killed through that mage's fireballs, or else they trigger the poisenous gas trap. One fireball can just wipe out thirty summoned monsters. I stick with the 'cheesy but effective' backstab

I find it interesting that people have different experiences of this battle. I wonder how the AI determines that...

When I fought him Sarevok I did try the backstab approach. But the bad guys were able to detect my fighter-thief before she got anywhere close enough to hit anyone up on the dais (even wearing the utterly worthless so-called "cloak of non-detection"), and Sarevok initiated dialogue. Sarevok et al then proceeded to rush the party--hasted it seemed--and my party was wiped out in seconds with the combination of Stinking Cloud (and was Web or Entangle used also? can't quite remember...) and the Tatoo of Power. God that Tatoo of Power thing is powerful. It was like a little neutron bomb that in about 4 quick consecutive blasts wiped me out every time. My party was only level 5-6, but still.

The following method relies on a weakness of the AI and summoning monsters, but it is surefire. The goal here is simply to win when other more difficult (but satisfying) strategies have failed. Anyway, here is how I finally ended up winning:

1) Keep the party back next to the entrance. Summon a couple of gangs of monsters as a barrier to protect your party. Equip characters with magic arrows and wands. IIRC, wand of frost and wand of heavens are the most effective. Haste, cast defensive spells, take potions.

2) Send a character who can create an explosion (arrow of detonation, potion of explosions, oil of firey burning, wand of fire, fireball spell) up along the RIGHT side of the hall. Do not expose the enemy. Reveal the area just up to the edge of where they are standing. Again, this character must be hasted. Have him direct the explosion to the edge of the fog of war where the bad guys are. Then run like hell back to the others.

3) Tazok and Angelo will not pursue your character. Sometimes they will eventually appear later in the fight if it goes on long enough, but it is as if they are stunned by the blast. (This is the AI weakness I mentioned.)

4) Sarevok will pursue your fleeing character. Place another gang of monsters on him for insurance. The summoned monsters will keep him occupied.

5) Semaj teleports next to your party. Hit him immediately with arrow of dispelling. Then direct all your fire upon him. He'll go down in a round or two.

6) Do the same with Sarevok (not sure if it has any effect but fire an arrow of dispelling at him for good measure, just in case it might help). He falls pretty fast.

With the party positioned by the door, if needed, you could send any characters who were badly hurt outside the door to quaff healing potions and then come back inside. But it won't be necessary.

Who - Solo Fighter, Lance Dragonhart
Where - Chapel of Bhaal
What - Sarevok's Funeral
How -
Marched in there with 20 arrows of dispelling, 40 arrows of peircing, and various potions
(i.e. Potion of Cloud Giant Strength, Potion of Invulnerability, etc.)
Drew my Halberd and lured Tazok away before sarevok saw me. Killed Tazok with Halberd + 2. Now he was out of the way, Time for Sarevok to die. I drew my arrows of Dispelling and ran up to the front. Shot Sarevok dispelling his speed then i ran down to see semaj dim. dooring. I killed him with arrows of dispelling and then took out angelo with arrows of peircing. Now for the Coup 'de' Grace. I ran nailed sarevok a good 7 or eight times, then ran some'more, untill he died. FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN!

When i went in i had my fighter (18/91 str, 18 dex, 18 con, 11 int, 10 wis, 18 cha) walk around the symbol of bhall so as not to set off traps, then sarevok ran after me, not his cronies though so i had my leader run back near the door and let the rest of my party have at him (dynahier*, yeslick, ajantis, imoen, kivan) attack him, he cut them down in a few seconds. But, in the backround my leader had downed a potion of storm giant strength, potion of invunerability, and a potion of regeneration. (he had a AC of -13 after all this, he had a full plate on, ring of protection +2, drizzt's scimitar+5 <-2AC> so then i went head on head with the new lord of murder, and while we were attacking over and over, i though it would never end but the boom, a dialog box comes up "You have beat me" (something along those lines).

*note about how i have dynahier w/out having mincs, I took mincs out to the edge of Neshkel and killed him at night, then went and saved dynahier. hehe

I divided and conquered, until just Sarevok was left. I then used Imoen with arrows of biting and piercing on the right side of the screen. With the crypt between the column and the wall, I lured Sarevok into one of the alcoves and drank a potion of invisibility, then moved Imoen to an adjoining alcove. I would then be able to get two shots off at Sarevok. He could not run at me through the crypt, and had to take the long way around. Imoen the hid in shadows as he was behind the column, running to get at her. As he stood in stunned disbelief at the disappearance of his tormentor, I would have Imoen run to the alcove which he just left, and unleash another two shots at him. Repeat as necessary. Sarevok failed his save two times against those arrows of biting, and they did a huge amount of damage. I just kept running back and forth, the only challenge being to hide in shadows while the column was between Imoen and Sarevok. She used arrows of piercing as the finishing touch. Ohh, and by the way, those arrows of explosions are worth every penny. They are so abusive. I did blow up my party on two occasions, though.

Hi .. this is my first posting to this forum. I just want to say thank you for such an amusing series of ways to kill Sarevok. I took a little from each of them and went in here and ran away lots. Unfortunately I had lost two members of my team, so I had the original two from the Friendly Inn (god doesn't she whinge), Imoen (who I had made a mage and was a useful as a chocolate fireguard) and me.

Monster summoning a frenzy (hobgoblins are the best .. ra ra ra), and he died (after much more running around .. obviously not that fit and the armour didn't help him .. probably expired because of exhaustion and nothing I did).

But again, thanks muchly
