You know, I really don't know how that happened. I have encountered the same problem as well once (the Sewage Golem in Irenicus' Dungeon wouldn't talk to me) and it when i reinstalled the whole thing it still wouldn't talk to me. IIRC the problem disappeared when I installed ONLY BG2 - SoA, and not ToB. Try if that works. If so, then you're a happy man.

If you wish to cover all flaws in the game, you should install both the official game patch (downloadable at the Bioware site) AND the Baldurdash Fixpack. I don't know where the latter one can be obtained, but try typing "Baldurdash Fixpack BG2" in Google, and I'm sure you can find it.

the bioware patch should have fixeda it, it's a known bug, maybe you got the wrong patch, make sure you download the tob patch and not the soa patch

The correct order is:
SoA ToB (if you have it) Official BioWare patch (the SoA-only one if you only have SoA, otherwise the ToB one) BaldurDash Fixpack (I've heard you should avoid the BaldurDash Remix) Non-WeiDU MODs WeiDU MODs For links to BioWare, BaldurDash, etc, they're in my site, in the Appendix for Links. Dark Drifter, what you're experiencing is a common problem, caused by a corrupted DIALOG.TLK file: The creatures in the game don't know what to say. I'm surprised by the fact that you've reinstalled and patched your game, and you still get the bug, because that's supposed to fix it. Did you delete the Override folder when you uninstalled the game? You should have, as otherwise it can carry "bad" information, even after a reinstall.

That is the problem, but sometimes simple saving, quitting and reloading helps.

same with whoever it was that had maxed out their summons count and couldnt summon anymore. if you keep the saved game (with the problem) no amount of re-installing will help
