I have now passed BGII and im working on the expansion. However, in the end of shadows of amn when I collected the tears of Bhaal I accepted a cloak which resists fear in one of the rooms. After this my main character wich is a Paladin cannot use any spells and my sword (Holy avenger) is not usable. Im not sure if it has anything to do with the cloak. But it was around the time that i accepted the cloak that things got mixed up.

Actually it does have a lot to do with the cloak. You can take either the evil or good path during the end. In your case it probably messed up your alignment, which is not good since Paladins are supposed to be Lawful Good.

Welcome to the Ironworks Forums.
![]() Accepting the cloak is an act of evil. This changes your alignment to Neutral Evil if you are not evil already. Paladins are not meant to be evil, so you became a Fallen Paladin, losing all your Paladin skills. As the saying goes, "You sow what you reap." |

Is there any way to make up for this?

![]() AFAIK, when a paladin or ranger becomes fallen, there's no way to undo the change.

Actually, Dundee, I've always heard it as "You reap what you sow."
(sow = plant seeds, reap = harvest grain)

From what I can tell, the following Global variables affect your rewards (& thus your alignment shift if you chose any Evil paths) in Hell...
PLAYER1FEAR PLAYER1GREED PLAYER1PRIDE PLAYER1SELFISH PLAYER1WRATH If *any* of these are set to 2 (the Evil path), you will shift to Neutral Evil (unless you have the Baldurdash fix & are already Evil). [pause for rant - unless you are Lawful Good, you should be able to choose 1 (Neutral Good) or even 2 (Chaotic Good) Evil paths & not change, IMO - a Chaotic Good character could easily succumb to Wrath & Greed & still be called Chaotic Good - Neutral Good could certainly fall for Greed - not to even mention the XXX Neutral characters]. If all of these are set to 1, the game believes you chose the Good paths (even if you didn't & shifted the values afterwards) & you will not change alignment. Near as I can tell, this is checked each time you "use" a Tear & claim a reward. The above Global variables can be changed with the CLUAConsole or ShadowKeeper. If you have already changed alignment due to one of the above being 2, though, the only way I know to "fix" it is with ShadowKeeper. Open your Save game, select your main character, & go to the Affects tab. You will see a line that says "Type: Reputation; Param1:-1; Param2:0; (all the rest):'blank'". Select that line & hit Remove. Then, go to the Characteristics tab & change your alignment back to whatever it used to be. If you just change your alignment on the Characteristics tab, it is "overruled" by the Rep-1 line on the Affects tab. - Imrahil [EDIT: initially put "<" around the word blank, but then it disappeared ] [ 03-11-2003, 09:02 PM: Message edited by: Imrahil ] |
