Hey all, I'm stuck in the sewers in the Temple district, in the room with all the mind flayers and what not. I have tried about everything i can think of, my PC is a mage, but he seems pretty much useless since they are darn near immune to magic, and anytime i manage to luer one or 2 out of the room they stun my tanks, spit on em and they explode, can't seem to do anything to get by them.. any hints/tips on killing them are most welcome.

Thanks in advance Mezu

P.S. this board is awesome, I have been visiting it for a little over 3 weeks since i broke out baldurs gate and went through it again, then went and bought BG II cause i was addicted again 8) It's nice to see a good forum with good natured and knowledgable people havin a good time

Well, then use Anomen's priest spell Chaotic commands- I think that it is a level five priest spell. Cast this on as many people as possible, and have the unprotected ones use missiles at a safe distance. Also use your luring tactic. Hope this works.

If you get really stuck, have Jan cast improved invisibility on himself, go to the end of the lair, nick all their treasure, then come back and finish them off when your party is stronger

I like using summons to crowd the doors (I'm pretty sure skeleton warriors are completely immune to psionics, although at your present level they are very weak). Just have everyone in the back take out the mind flayers and umber hulks with missile weapons (concentrate fire on a single enemy at a time). Keep summoning units into the door if they keep dying, and they do die fast! It's somewhat effective, but at times you'll have to reload if they get through.

This tactic worked for me, but it may take a few tries to get it to click (you have to keep a close eye on your summons at all times as well because you can only have 5 at a time).

If you have trouble with Umber Hulks by themselves, you're not ready for Umber Hulks + Mind Flayers. However, since you've already been through the Windspear Hills, we know that you're capable of fighting.

Mind Flayers: Very high Magic Resistance. Go ahead and use things like Fireball, though, it'll still hurt the Umber Hulks (and your own summons, too-watch out). Their Psionic Blasts will Stun anyone who does not either A) Have high Magic Resistance of their own, B) Have a good Save vs. Spells, or C) Have the forethought to have somebody cast Free Action or Chaotic Commands on them.
Once any creature is Stunned, all of the Mind Flayers who can see it will run over and start melee-attacking it, ignoring all other enemies. This is particularly nasty, as each melee hit from a Mind Flayer will temporarily drain 5 points of Intelligence, and once any creature hits 0 in any stat, that's instant death.

Roger the Fence sells Potions of Invulnerability.

Thanks much all, I finally made it through with a combo of priest buffs, summon 2 shadows haste and a LOT of patience getting 1 or 2 out at a time.
I'm glad i have a good sense of humor, cause a few times they would chuck a stun at my puller and it would stun every one in my party saves or not.. maybe i just have bad luck and my guys roll horribly, but i do tend to have really bad luck when it comes to random number generators such as the rolling system.

Ha ! Random numbers are actually alot rarer than you'd expect.
It seems randomness is quite hard to come by in nature .. a computer cant generate truly random numbers either... in fact ... there's quite a market for background noise ( that radiation and other stuff coming from space ), since that is completely random.

Anywayz .. sorry .. im studying for my Physics-exam . .get caught up in stuff

Well, let's face it. The only good Mindflayer is a dead Mindflayer. So what you gotta do is probably cast Deathward on your "tanks" and Chaotic Commands on everyone else. (both are priest spells) And maybe get a few potions of mind focusing. Then, go in there and overpower them.
