What is your favorite Class and explain why you chose that class

My favorite class is the Thief cuz I love to rob commoners & nobles blind heh heh heh

And best of all I love Backstab, very useful if you wanna weaken your foe a little bit

I created my own class which I called a swordmaster. Its really simple idea of taking two particular sword types such as the bastard sword, long sword or double handed and making that your primary weapon throughout the game.
Example:

long sword: ++++
Bow: +

Something along those lines. I take the class of a fighter to make this work. Its not very exciting I know but I figured it was a change. And when you get a high skill in a favored sword profession you can chop through just about anything.

I create "theme" characters like that. Like a warrior that only uses 2-handed weapons ... specifically 4 stars in swords and 2 in staves. Actually, very few of my front-line fighters use ranged weapons. Usually just some darts or something to help take out a fleeing enemy or if they're really banged up and have to run away and can't get help immediately.

As for my favorite ... that's a hard one. Paladin is probably my all-time favorite class in AD&D, but I don't like the way BG implemented them. I think IWD did a better job of it ... but he's still missing some key abilities like Prot from Evil 10' constantly. So ... either a Paladin or a Cleric/Mage. Love tons of spells. I can remember which class I finished the game first with, but it was one of those 2. By now, I've finished it with every class except cleric and thief. Working on them from time to time. The Ranger
As to why I chose him, it was some unexplainable fascination with them.

The single BEST class for bg1 would have to be fighter or paladin.
Simply because they are tough and will survive the beginning.
The best class in my op.....if u plan to conquer the realms in bg2 and throne of bhaal...a fighter....stats as follows
18/00 or something close
18 dex
18 con
17 int
8 wis
10 char
True neutral
Dual classed to a mage at about level 21 22 (once u are in throne of bhaal)

I like a lot of the classes, but I like playing a Necromancer the best, I guess. I know, it's not the most powerful school of magic and the game forgot to give you any benefits for being a specialist mage, but I just like the idea of specializing in magic relating to death.

I also play evil parties most often and sometimes have the characters not help out others during a battle. If all the enemies have been killed, but one, I'll have the party stand there and watch as the character engaged in the fight battles alone.

The classes I've never played due to lack of interest are:
Ranger
Thief
Druid

I really love playing a mage now, especially with Dark Side. If I'm playing with all NPCs I use a standard mage or a Conjurer. But by far, the best time I've had playing BG to date is the party consisting of four specialist mages (that party also includes a cleric and a mage-thief). DS gives you up to level 9 mage spells, and the new spells are great. I roleplay them to cast their own school's spells whenever practical.

My evil necromancer from that party is one of funnest characters I've ever used. Part of the reason is that his custom portrait and soundset really mesh well. I've tried dualing him to cleric outside of the game, and I would really like to try such a character, I think. I may use him as such in an 'evil' campaign. Dark Side has some interesting looking gear for evil druids. But to get him to the high levels that I want, I'd have to limit the party size by using only three evil NPCs at any time--and that would make it next to impossible to play chaotically evil, which I would expect requires a party of six to even have a prayer of surviving (eg, having to fight the Flaming Fist, including their wizards, every time I set foot in a town). Although I suppose for that sort of game I would want to use a pure fighter (or fighter dualed to thief) as the main character anyway, come to think of it... So maybe the Neutral Evil style of play would be the way to go, leaving him as a necromancer and then using a full party of NPCs. Well anyway the necromancer is a fun character.

Since I now play with Dark Side I'm sort of tempted to try a game with a druid, or maybe solo with one, just for an interesting change of pace. DS has some decent equipment for druids, and adds some new druid spells up to level 6. I doubt I'd finish such a game, but it might be fun to try out a 'beastmaster' type of character who wanders through the forest with charmed bears, wolves, etc. Or maybe I'll team the druid up with a bard, since DS also has thrown in some good items for bards as well. Those are two classes I never play.

I'd say Fighter or Theif.

When I completed Baldurs Gate 1 + TOTSC I used a fighter, and on my latest game I am a theif.

Fighters are extremly strong, and are great at leading the pack. Theif's can be useful, but no so at the start. That is because you get Imoen.

But, my favourite NPC is usually Kivan, who is a Ranger.

So, I guess either Fighter, Theif or Ranger

Rangers & Paladins DO kick butt--tankitude, THAC0, bladed weapons, Priest spells, and maybe even some Stealth. They make multiclassed Fighter/Clerics look like a bunch of pansies. Even so, the Fighter's ability to Dual makes him SO much more versatile, not to mention weapon mastery. IMHO, it's less interesting to roleplay a true-class; give me a Dual or Multi any day.

But the MOST interesting class? Thief. The most interesting multi-class? Mage/Thief, preferably Elven. You can make your Thief a "Nice" guy by learning Stealth & Traps, or a "Nasty" guy with Pockets & Locks. I cleared out the Wyvern room in Durlag's just by putting the Boots of Speed on my Thief, then had him pretty much clear out the rest of that level by himself--chug a Potion of Invisibility, disarm the traps, and all is well. Or if you're playing a Mage/Thief, you can get a really pretty Backstab with Strength and Improved Invisibility--alternatively, you can Stealth around, shoot your Wand of Fire at some guys, and go back into Stealth before they can attack you. Life is good.
