Ok I'm at the 2nd floor down in Durlags Tor. You know the one where the four warders give you the riddles that you have to solve before they let you pass. Well I already know the attack is imminent, so we'll skip the possible glich scenario. What I need is strategy to defeat these buggers. I tried dispelling their spell effects, and the spell went off without a hitch; however, they still managed to tear my party to shreds. I've considered using Otiluke's Resilient Sphere on two of them to get them out of the way but that's iffy. Any advice on this battle would be greatly appreciated.

PS>I did check the forums up to the past 100 days and found nothing on this fight. I'd try the one year deal but who wants to sift through 42 pages of forums?

Try summoning monsters & animate dead so that the hurt that the warders dish out is spread.
Protect your weaker party members (mage, etc).
Buff your party with the usual spells (haste, bless, chant, defensive harmony, etc).
Have your tanks drink potions (invulnerability, etc) to help.
It's a tough fight, but doable.

This is not an easy fight, especially if you are one of the few people who don't cheat. Nonetheless, the way that I beat these Warders was by hiding my weak party members down the hall and juicing up my best bruisers. As Hayashi mentioned, summon as many monsters as possible. And to be really really cheesey, (I never tried this) go use your Nymph Cloak and charm as many respawning monsters as possible, save the game, then go and charm more. Soon enough you will have your very own army of spiders and Dopplegangers.

However, if you would rather use conventional methods then just haste your tank (who is also wearing 'Boots of Speed'), give him your best strength potion, give him a 'Heroic potion', and use whatever else your heart desires. They can be beaten, don't give up! Oh and also, after you have beaten them, post back here and tell us your story.

this was the toughest fight in the game for me, no doubt. What I did was loaded up my main Tank. Give him the Helm of Balduran, Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise, Ring or Cloak of protection +2, A single handed weapon you are proficient in(preferably one of drizzt's scimitars), your best shield, then drink the following potions, Storm Giant Strength, Heroism, Invulnerability. Basically what you should do is lower his THACO and armor class as much as possible. Casting Bless, Chant and Haste on your entire party will also help, and if you have Jahira or possibly another druid, cast defensive harmony on the entire party as well. Then with your main character Draw Upon Holy Might. You should be attacking with 25 strength! Have your main tank battle it out with 'pride' and try to keep the rest of your party alive attacking the other 3 warders. Use your mage to help with 'pride' magic missles will do the trick. And after he is dead try and balance out the fight, you will get it eventually. Looking at all this seems a bit confusing, so i'll end with this. Don't be afraid to use stuff in your inventory, thats what it is there for.

*bleep* Agghh. . . . potions? Did I forget to mention I have this unruly tendency to sell all my potions, except those specifically used for various healing? Oh well I'll just spawn some. Oh yeah how did Tor get in there? I believe I spelled it t-o-w-e-r. Is it some kind of auto-"correction" program or was I just that tired last night?
Anyway I'll do whatever is necesary just shy of char. editing. I only do that with less involved games like Diablo 2.

Move your party back to the entrence of the lvl and summon monsters in front of them (summon undead (cleric lvl 3) works fine - otherwise you'll also need 'protection from panic' (mage lvl 2 or cleric lvl 1))

Equip all party-members with missile weapons (with the most powerful ammunition) and cast haste, prayer etc.

Then have your best protected character trigger the confrontation - and run back behind the summoned monsters - then pick off the wardens as they arrive (and summon more monsters if needed).

Oh YEAH BABY!!!
I finaly offed those four buggers.
for the curious: First I cast app. 10 monster summon lv. 3 spells around the area. Second I had my PC-a paladin, Minsc and Khalid, down both potions of heroism and storm-giant strength. Third I had Dynaheir cast haste on my PC which then spread to EVERY SINGLE MONSTER SUMMON. Then I had Jaheira cast bless which covered most of my crew(including the monsters). Last I spoke to love and let the Some Holy Paladin wrath rain down on the poor saps. The only things that took any damage aside from the warders were my summons(most of which were slaughtered). My party remained unscathed and I'm on my way to the next level. By the way yes I did cheat a little. Dynaheir didn't have any haste scrolls and I didn't feel like spending the night in that God-forsaken place just to get the spell memorized, so I rationalized that she knew the spell why couldn't she just write up a scoll on a spare sheet of paper?

If there's one thing worse than taking on a tough Dwarf Fighter, it's taking on 4 of them at once. So, I always use the 'Split them up and fight them one at a time' method that works thoughout BG1. Another of my all purpose strategies is 'Don't go into melee combat with anyone who can do you serious damage - get someone else to do it instead'. So Summoning and Charm type spells are a good way to deal with this type of fight. Also spells that can restrict their movement are good - Entangle, Hold, Stun, etc.
Still well done Firestorm, keep up the good work.

I can remember the immense relief I felt when I finally beat those mean little runts! Now that you have a taste of what it is like to beat them, try it again. Only this time don't use TEN level 3 Monster Sum spells. I mean don't get me wrong, I personally used a couple of level 1 Monster Sums, and one level 2 Monster Sum, but TEN level 3's ?!?

Here try this, haste up your party and run the hell out of Durlag's Basement, eerrr... I mean Tower. Go outside and sprint over to that man who is convenietly located right outside. Sell some or all of your collected junk, and buy those potions that you wanted to spawn (I'm not sure what he sells). Then run back to the well on the third level and sleep on it. If anything disrupts your sleep, then reload and try it again.

Now fight those furious four again, only this time I want your party to leave the fight a little bloodied up. Look, I don't want to tell you what to do, it's your game and you should enjoy it the way you want. It's just that there are certain areas of the game that were designed to give you a challenge. Now if you go back and fight them again and again and again and again without any avail. Then I would agree that summoning ten groups of level 3 Monsters is just and warranted.
Just try my suggestion and please no hard feelings.

The fight seemed difficult as I tried to fight them with all my party members + summoned creatures.
But then, I decided to hide all of them but my Ranger with Boots of Speed on.
I challenged them one by one, luring them into dungeon corridors.
Magic (Fire, Acid, etc) Arrows'n'stuff did the work. One shot then run!
It appeared to be very easy.
