Top quality advice - pity I utterly disregarded it when PMing Saz and Memmy about the last troll (ARAG34 for those of you unfortunate enough to have witnessed his antics)

Btw, it's at times when troll exterminators are needed that I really miss the "Who's Online" feature - without it, I had no idea if any GD Mods were available to deal with the idiot The sooner it's back (in a form the board can cope with), the better IMHO.

In our instance, a "troll" is someone who comes online, posts pornographic material, makes lewd or grossly inappropriate comments to members or insults them personally and very cruelly, and makes things very unpleasant for everyone. In general, they have nothing to offer the forum outside of their "spew."

I think what you are referring to is someone who has differing opinions from others and is getting into "hot debates." As long as it's kept from insulting others unnecessarily, we are pretty much ok with that...there's a fine line there.

Cheers,

Gotcha, thanks! Now I understand what a troll is. I've heard the word many times, and been puzzled by it....

Sazerac - Hey, I've got a knotted up wad of Christmas lights here, they don't seem to work, there must be one bulb in that is out, can you find which one it is? Thanks!

Hey Saz, I think what I just did will help -- added a 'Report Abuse' button and states HOW and what to send us.. check it out, when you click on one of our names to email, it puts the info needed to be included in the email.

I also have a question.
If a troll shows up at my door in the RPG forum...I cannot ban him, I can only delete his stuff or lock it down.

Which is prefferred?

I would rather delete his stuff, thus cleaning the threads up, then post a warning to him and e-mail Ziroc.
Is that what I am supposed to do?

My approach is usually to lock the thread to keep a record, warn the person, edit any EXTREME vulgarity in the thread, and then email Z with a link to the thread with a recommended action. Threads can always be deleted later when firmer action is taken. But it's your call on how you want to do things, we all have our own little styles - there's no right or wrong way to do things. We all trust each other to do the right thing.

Just remember to do what's best for the members of the forum you are moderating - it's them that we are serving here at the end of the day.
