Thanks Dreamer128, but Lifetime said they had already read the Hobbit.

Hobbits and sex? That's enough to put anyone off their feed....*urk*

The six 'books' of the Lord of the Rings are divided over three books, being The Fellowship of the Ring (book 1&2), The Two Towers (3&4) and The Return of the King (5&6)

Yes, big fan

If 6 books made 3 books then wouldnt there really be a 3 part series?

I hope there's a lot of blood and gore in LOTR..

And Memnoch..SIX BOOKS? Eck..
Okay I know theres The Hobbit, then The Fellowship of the Ring, and the other two, and The Similiarion or some such..what am I missing? Where shall I start?
Ye GoDS!

There are also some lesser known books of Tolkien. One I like very much is Tree and Leaf, which contains an interesting and thought provoking story called Leaf, by Niggle, plus an essay on fairytales. There is also the book 'Farmer Giles of Ham', which I don't have any more. I last read it when I was 10, so have somewhat lost the plot. I remember enjoying it very much, however....

I'm not sure whether to go see the film or not. Probably will, BUT I have read the Lord of the Rings so many times that I have a very clear picture of the Ring world in my head, and am worried that it'll never be the same again. Okay, maybe it'll be better...... But from the clip I saw, Frodo and Sam looked a bit too sweet and fluffy for my liking......

I agree that The Hobbit was quite boring in places, but I don't understand what you mean by politically-correct language. The notion of political correctness didn't exist back when he wrote these books as it does today, and even if it did it would mean little for his created races. That's just the style he writes in. His language is dry, which could lead to the assumption that he's trying to shy away from making any flamboyant statements about a race, but that's not so.

Anyway, I'm rambling and I forgot what my point was, or even if I had one. To answer your question the Lord of the Rings series is aimed much more towards adults, and is no simple "Fairy Tale". Also remember, though, that "real high fantasy" isn't constituted by "all the death and gore."

Does anyone think that the movies will be as good, tho usually they are not, as the books? I Just picked up the trilogy, all in one book, and will read it b4 the movies. I find that if you read the books, you will get more out of the movie. You are able to know what the characters are "thinking", while they are doing. It always makes the movie better when you read the book first......in most cases.

I saw a seven minute trailer for the first LOTR movie at an entertainment industry convention this past weekend.

It looks Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Every major character was featured and looked and sounded right on. How can I wait til December for the full thing?
