Ack! No, no!
Nobody should be downloading Ascension Classic anymore. It's needlessly large, needlessly incompatible with other mods and, while not a "bugfest", certainly has bugs that have long since been eliminated. Get WeiDU Ascension instead from http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~weimer/bgate/ WeiDU Ascension is less than one-third the size of Classic and has the major benefit of being installable at any time, and installable with virtually any mod out there. Also, there's a new version of Epic Endeavors that is MUCH smaller than the original (24 megs vs 55+) here. It should be identical to the original.
