Why oh why do the golden horde have so much cavalry, I no longer have any use for all my swordsmen when fighting those barbaric bastards.

StigTC, whenever possible fight cavalry in the woods! woods on hills are even better (your swordsmen being on the top of course )
this works best when you're defending so you can choose your starting position. but even when attacking you can hide in the woods and try to lure the enemy at you.
for me these guerilla tactics turned out A LOT more effective than taking them on with my own heavy cavalry.

Sheesh, how am i gonna beat that when i play the Romans myself ?

Quite simple. They have some kind of agressive pigs that cause the elephants to panic and crush their own troops.

Nah, it's not in the demo. But I've read a few previews. It's the only weapon against those killing machines. Those elephants can punch a hole the side of Hawaii in your lines. If the enemy were to send some cavalry through, I think you'd have some serious issues. The only alternative I can think off is concentrating all your archers on the elephants in the hopes of driving them off. As for the demo; how do you guys win the battle? I attack and kill the Roman Equites (light cavalry) early, then wait until the rest of the centre has passed. When the first line of their infantry reaches the hill, I order my elephants to plunge straight into their lines. I then send the phalanx (centre) and barbarian mercs (flanks) forward to engage their front lines. In the meanwhile, I use all my heavy cavalry to attack their flanks and my missile cavalry to support my main infantry force. Eventually, they are completly surrounded. Works like a charm so far. Only 170 men lost, as opposed to well over 1400 enemies casualties. I think I can do better, though.

Well, i used the good old frontal attack, no pain, no gain. Cavalry and elephants first, then the infantry. There wasn't much left of my army afterwards, and even Hannibal himself fled the scene at a certain point, but in the end i came out victorious. Who cares about casualties, right ? Getting back to Medieval, I'm thinking of starting a new game (since my king died) and playing as another faction...maybe a Muslim faction. What's a good faction to play as?

I played as the Egyptians, since they have a pretty good starting position. I hear the Turks have superior units, though.

I had a problem with the Turks as well, Dreamer. Wipe them off the face of the Earth as soon as possible - they can become the most devastating country on the map.
